Hotel location and hotel very good rooms and beds very big,, bar and restaurant can’t fault area and dogs allowed In any hard floor area . BUT food not too good limited choice and ran out of chickens and steak both nights by 7pm Only fish and scampi with chips or very hot chilli left if they fix that would give 4 stars But good for dogs we would probably go again staff nice and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at the Dunes hotel, spending two nights and having dinner and breakfast on both evenings and mornings. The pros were that the staff were LOVELY. Especially the restaurant and bar staff, we couldn’t have been made more welcome and our Pomeranian Oscar was adored. The food was pretty good - the full English in particular was delicious. It was a good location to Roanhead but a bit of a drive to go anywhere else or note - I am sure this would be a great place to stay in the warmer months. The cons were the room itself. Big stains on the carpet, mould in the shower and particularly on the shower head where the water comes out. Missing usual items like a toilet roll holder and anywhere to hang your towel really. I know it’s only three star but these are basics I would expect it to have. Also the rooms are very noisy, especially from the rooms above so meant our dog was quite unsettled. It didn’t detract from our stay overall and the staff really made up for the deficit.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Fantastic dog friendly venue
Lovely location for those wanting to visit the Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve and the lake district. The hotel and the executive room was very well presented. The staff here are awesome, a standout bar member Jordan really looked after us every evening. Our dog fell in love with him. The food is outstanding at the restaurant from the breakfast to the main meals was amazing. We will be back, great value, lovely hotel and brilliant hospitality.

Stayed for three nights, throughly enjoyed our stay here, pleasant and efficient friendly staff, clean and spacious bedroom and en-suite, excellent access to local beach and dunes for dog walks. Menu in restaurant was a little limited especially as we were staying for three evening meals, albeit the food was well presented and prompt friendly service.

Stayed in September for 3 nights. Blessed with sunny weather. Lovely hotel in an isolated location so ideal for peace and quiet. Bedroom was clean, a good size and had a lovely, comfortable big bed. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Small, repetitive dinner menu and limited choice of fish dishes but all very well cooked, desserts were excellent and waiting staff helpful and friendly. On the minus side: our room didn’t have a fridge and there weren’t any water glasses. Despite asking several times for glasses, they failed to appear. Also, we had only one hand towel. The shower cubicle had a fixed ceiling shower and no hand shower attachment. Also, no safety grab rail or non slip mat. Rooms are only serviced if requested and there isn’t an information folder which we would have found helpful. Our pooch was well catered for with bedding, bowls, treats and a sausage at breakfast provided. Dogs are permitted in the restaurant but not in the carpeted conservatory dining area which is fully understandable. All in all, we had a lovely stay.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Staff were excellent (bar, restaurant and reception) with us and the dogs throughout our stay
Found this to be a really good set-up for the dogs. Staff are all brilliant with them - and they have treats on them too :-) The Bar / Restaurant areas are set up with hardwood floors so you can eat and drink with your dog(s). The menu (morning and evening) isn't the most wide-ranging but to be fair it is available to view online so you do know what is what beforehand. The food was okay, it wasn't brilliant, but at the same time, it wasn't terrible. The grounds aren't really of any size but are good for taking the dogs on a short wander for toilet breaks when needed. The rooms were decent, size-wise as well. We had a ground floor one - and near to reception which was good for when needing to take the dogs out last thing or first thing. There aren't really any walks of note in the vicinity for the dogs - so be prepared to have to head out in car. The dunes/beach of Roanhead are about 1 mile away and accessible via road (so beware of traffic). We did a few trips up to Bowness (drove to Haverthwaite and got the steam train to Lakeside and then the boat up to Bowness - Dogs go free). Tried to look for somewhere to go for a walk and grab Sunday dinner - found ourselves going down the beach to Roanhead and walking on from there until we eventually ended up in a pub in Barrow (Bay Horse) - nothing to write home about, but it did give us chance to find a taxi company that has specific cars that take dogs (Coastal Cars in Barrow - google for number, they take cash and debit card too)
