“If you like rather olde world decor you will love the Old Swan. Everywhere is clean and well maintained but you cannot miss the Victorian feel of the place. Our room was spacious with a water bowl left out for our dog. The zip and link beds were very comfortable and we slept well. Food is average. I would probably not take the evening meal if I stayed again as it is easy to walk into the town centre where there are lots of restaurants. Breakfast was buffet style rather than cooked to order. Again, just OK. Staff were pleasant and I felt that prices were competitive with hotels of a similar standard. I would stay again as we had a comfortable night but I'd eat dinner elsewhere.”

“We had a nice time. The weather was lovely which always helps! The room was adequate without being anything great. No a/c, very small bathroom. Breakfast was pretty awful. Huge room full of people- buffet style. Not enough hot food and only 1 very slow toaster! In addition to all of this, we unfortunately left something quite expensive in the bathroom and despite having called and emailed the hotel twice they were not able to come back to us with any acknowledgement of whether they had found or not found the item. Harrogate showed itself beautifully on a sunny evening, but we will not be going back to the old Swan”

“Stayed a single night at the Old Swan with one dog. A very traditional hotel, fantastic style on the edge of the old town. Basic but good dog awareness, we had a room on the second floor which made for a delay getting pooch to the outside using stairs or lift. Lift caused great amusement when our dog who had not experienced lifts before saw the doors close on one room and open onto another…! Eating was in the bar area which was fine although most of the chairs/tables were very low. The dog didn’t care as she was closer to any tit-bits, however not the most comfortable for adults of a certain age… Room was fine, water bowl ready and waiting. Staff excellent, although the morning service in the bar area needed a nudge. We were first in and ticked off the guest list, however we then seem to be forgotten. Eventually sorted, great food. Loads of green areas outside for dogs, but suggest on leads. Overall a very pleasant visit, many thanks to all the staff…”

“Hotel Room was lovely but on second floor furthest away from reception. No bins on outside so nowhere to put bagged dog poo. Gave it to waiter who kindly took it into hotel to dispose of. Food was not very good, had to send back. Would go again but not with dogs Ann’s would not do dinner.”

“Centrally located in Harrogate, spacious and nice rooms. Breakfast fine and drinks reasonably priced. One complaint though is no doggy waste bins anywhere on property and when we enquired at reception we were advised to take waste with us or leave under car, seems very strange for a dog friendly property, This aside would stay again.”

“The fact that I had a dog with me hardly registered at reception We had a gloomy room facing inwards and no special arrangements for my dog other than a letter from the manager's dog who we never saw The only member of staff who made any fuss of her was a man clearing up the cigarette ends from a reception the night before at 7.30am . In no sense was this a dog friendly hotel as I would expect.”

“Imposing and attractive hotel a short walk from the centre of town, great location. Friendly staff and good breakfast. The room was too warm though, no visible thermostat. Our puppy was uncomfortable (slept on the tiled bathroom floor to stay as cool as possible) and so were we - not a hugely restful night’s sleep. Very dog friendly in the main, but no bins for dog poop at all - ended up having to walk across the street and use a wheelie bin from a neighbouring house. i get a poop bin at the front entrance is not desirable, but get a bin in the car park at least!”
