Enjoyed our very short stay. The accommodation was clean with everything we needed. The bed was especially comfortable. Lovely evening meal. Our dog enjoyed his stay too. Would return.

A beautiful listed Manor House. The whole estate is meticulously maintained, as such better than when we visited Highclere castle! Go for a superior double mews room which has a patio door straight onto the grass, easy access for dogs to do their business. Plenty on bins on site too. This room also had a fridge so very handy for dog food. There is a nature trail walk around the perimeter of the hotel and plenty of green spaces & seating. If muddy thereā€™s a doggy wash Ā£3 per 3 mins. The staff are friendly, professional & very welcoming of dogs. You can only dine in the bar area with dogs, we found there wasnā€™t enough tables so probably best to go around 6.45 pm. From 7 pm both the bar & restaurant menu are available to you and the food was very tasty & on a dinner 3 course package excellent value. Note they do not serve bitter ..so no bitter shandy but no big deal. A great doggy one nighter, more than that youā€™d probably want to go off site. The pet calming diffusers in the room probably calmed us too ! Plenty of parking and the sat nav tends to take you on the back of the property down Gamblins lane and the hotel isnā€™t signposted but itā€™s on your left as you enter the lane. All rooms are outbuildings to the main gated house and parking surrounds them so unpacking the car is easy. We didnā€™t use the swimming pool but it looked popular from all the young children passing our room ..not sure if these were people using the facilities from outside on a membership as we didnā€™t think they were guests?! Good recommended one night break.

Beautiful place, lacking management The lack of hospitality and interpersonal skills between receptionists and guests. The depleted, repetative, dinner menu when a chef is off site. I totally agree that pets should not be allowed to eat in restaurants, however, every dog friendly hotel, inn and guest house I have visited, boasts a designated dog friendly cosy room to dine in. On half board for the week and expected to dine in the bar, was not acceptable, small with no comfort to make for an enjoyable dining experience. I do wish to mention, the assistance from Billie, who brought the key to our room from reception, after being told we could not gain access yet, even though the room was ready. Louise, who spoke to the restaurant manager, Freddy, to maybe, arrange for a small table in corridor, to be dressed for our evening meal, with our dog . Finding this too draughty Freddie prepared a table in another room. Along with Bella and, their ''nothing is too much trouble, with a smile'' attitude and '' I can see what i can do for you'' was much appreciated. These member's of staff have exceptional interpersonal skills and will go far in hospitality. This hotel could warrant at least 4* if a little thought and perhaps research of other hotel's facilities and becoming more flexible and compliant to what the guest expects and not what it receives, could very much facilitate an upgrade. There were no biscuits in the bedroom, nor drawers, which are needed by bedside for medication etc. Instead of self service from a coffee machine in the corridor, we, as guests, expected to be greeted and shown to a table, be served tea/coffee and informed of breakfast procedure. Guests are required to order their tea from the breakfast bar and take it, yourself, to your table, which is difficult when you are elderly. Being a Grade 1 listed building, it has potential and everything going for it. Beautiful well maintained gardens, some parts almost forest like. Lovely terrace, amazing paintings and furnishings, its almost like walking around a National Trust house, free of charge. Would have liked patio table and chairs in front of the doors to our room from the courtyard, to enable us to enjoy the sunshine. Elderly guests require a little more thought and planning for their comfort. The ramps are insufficient in support, ladies lavatory is up a flight of stairs in the Main House, there is one for people with limited abilities in the bar but it requires obtaining a ramp. There are no bedrooms in the house and doesn't appear to be anyone offering assistance with your luggage to your room.

The hotel was really friendly and the dog was not a problem at all. The room was good although there was no hot water until after 6.30. The sink blocked on the first day but reception ensured it was fixed whilst we were out. The only downside was the bed was really uncomfortable. Grounds were great for walking the dog in

We absolutely loved the hotel and so did our two long haired miniature dachshunds. We think the package we had was good value for money too. The hotel was clean and the room was just right, a little small but more than adequate. The wood walk was lovely. The staff were so friendly and were great with our dogs who tend to be a little reactive being dachshunds! The dog wash if necessary is a lovely touch. The hotel is also in a nice area with lots of nice pubs and restaurants close by. The staff were all lovely and seemed to be a great team. One receptionist was particularly helpful and lovely to our dogs. Unfortunately we don't know her name. We would visit again as we loved it.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Like I have pointed out the soft drinks are very expensive in my opinion and I think they should invest in the pump service of serving soft drinks but apart from that the hotel was A1
This hotel is one of the few hotels that does what it says it is definitely dog friendly you don't have to leave the hotel if you wish to walk your dogs there was a wonderful walk that's around the hotel perimeter plus there's a large area if you want to let your dog off and if he likes playing with a ball the staff are very friendly and helpful there is a gym swimming pool jacuzzi and sauna for your use food is excellent wonderful breakfast and you can eat as much as you like at breakfast the only thing I would say if you have children be very careful of the price of the soft drinks so you do not have soft drinks on pump you have to buy them in the bottle which can be very expensive in fact a pint of Coke will cost you more than a pint of lager by quite an amount so be careful if the kids keep asking for soft drinks that is my only bad point but apart from that I would definitely go back again very relaxing but next time the wife's on lager one last thing the hotel is situated between Southampton and Portsmouth so it is in a great place especially if you like shopping in visiting the Dockyard if you have time

Dear PetsPyjamas, We have just returned from staying at the "New Place Hotel" and request you to take it off your portfolio. We are 100% disappointed that you would even consider it worthy of your custom, and ours. How dare you even suggest this property to your customers. A cross between Fawlty Towers and a dirty, unkept Butlins camp is probably the best description. Having stayed at some amazing properties before via PetsPyjamas we are surprised and very disappointed with this trip and will seriously suspect future recommendations by you. It was absolutely futile complaining as the entire hotel appeared to be managed by untrained, unprepared, could not care less staff and managers. The bar, restaurant and breakfast areas were a disaster. It was not worth Ā£10/night let alone what you charged. - There was no mention at check in if the upgrade requested by PetsPyjamas was available. I had to go and subsequently ask after we saw the state of the pokey, dark dirty "classic double" we were given. They were too busy so nothing available. - The 3 course meal, on both nights, took over 3 hours to serve - The dessert course on first night was soaked in fat, cold and over cooked, and the tarte tatin served upside down - burnt crisp base on top and freeze dried apples at the bottom. - On arrival we were told no tables available in bar. There were at least 5 uncleared tables, which remained uncleared for the 3+ hours we were there. We had to drag a member of staff from behind the bar to clear one for us. - No apologies, no checks, no service. - Salt/Pepper pots empty....on every table and remained empty our entire stay - Second night they did come over and apologise after getting the wrong table for one main course, and the 30 minute delay for the other. Offered us a free drink several times which we declined several times. They could not offer a refund on the entire meal as prepaid through you. It should be. - On the second night we ordered the cheese board as we thought the kitchen could not get that wrong. We were wrong! We were offered "a bit extra" as a sorry for the delay in mains. About 1kg of brie and smoked cheddar arrived, enough to feed a family of 10! When asked why "smoked" and why no stilton as per the menu. Apparently that's all they had and everything else had run out. Didn't bother to mention this or ask if we wanted smoked. Needless to say we left most of it. - Breakfast - no juice, always empty. Tinned or old fruit salad. Had to ask for more bread and croissants several times. Yoghurt was off, strange taste and fizzy, no jam, marmalade or pots to put it in had there been any. When we asked for a plate, the girl disappeared into the kitchen and came back out, apologised and said they didn't have any more! Had to tell her to go back and get a plate from somewhere....and she then found some, in the warming cupboard. - Bar ran out of wine glasses. When they did get some, served red in white, and white in red. - Still no salt and pepper. - As previously mentioned rooms were dark, very small with mould around the shower, loose toilet seat and broken toilet roll holder. Old, stained carpet. - The rooms were not cleaned. The champagne flutes we had for the wine on first night were there all weekend, one with some wine still in it, uncleaned and not moved. The bathroom surface had not been wiped down. - Our lovely neighbours were chain smoking out side the bedroom door all night. - Walking around the grounds it was clear the entire place was falling into disrepair with broken kitchen equipment and bedroom furniture lying around everywhere. - We did not bother with the pool and gym area,....it was not worth the stress! - Nothing at all for the dogs. No treats, beds, water bowls in the room....absolutely nothing. - Pointless complaining as no manager. He/she kept sending the staff back to apologise and offer a free drink. On check out when we were asked if everything had been OK. "No, it had not". "Oh, hope you have a safe trip home". - This list could keep going. I have stayed in better Travel Lodges with bigger, airy, cleaner, well kept bedrooms. I have been singing your praises to all and sundry after our previous stays, especially at the Rothay Manor Hotel. You've just lost one of your best promoters and potential investor! I strongly suggest you have a senior manager from Petspyjamas visit the New Place Hotel immediately, demand a full refund and explanation. Do not accept the "we were fully booked and had a wedding". They're a hotel. It's their job. If they can not cope they should not be accepting bookings.
