Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? The bar staff need to be a bit more on the ball as tables that should have been used couldn't have been due to lunchtime glasses and plates were still there in the evening
A beautiful pub with a lovely converted barn which has been split into 5 rooms, all you need apart from a much needed fridge for the dogs food. The pub itself is stunning and gets incredibly busy so book your tables in advance. The walks along the South Downs are absolutely stunning with miles and miles of paths and trails. We will definitely be going back.

We had an amazing stay at the White Hart. We brought our dog with us, and It is a very friendly welcoming place where they really look after you. Nothing is a problem, it is a very cosy friendly pub serving excellent food. They also have a great outside space in the back, where it is lovely to have a drink or two. With Harting Downs on your doorstep, 5 min drive away, the country walks are amazing. A Big thank you to Bob, Sophie and the team for a great stay. We would happily recommend anyone going to the White Hart.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Reckon I said enough above.
Really disappointed - rooms like small boxes, first with freezing cold bathroom, asked to move, second warm but neither anywhere close to the cost. Nothing to welcome dogs. Think perhaps landlady has dogs and wishes to have them at work. Two yappy small ones, off their lead, as an inappropriate welcome on our way to breakfast, as my Lab is nervous around such dogs??? No feeling of welcome, in fact quite the opposite, as if they were doing me a favour. Maybe the word ‘veritable’ in their description ought to have warned me with ‘pompous alert?’ Seems very old fashioned ways are still in play, with very poor cleaning - wooden floor in first room had great patches of sticky. Cleaners having a smoke mid shift tells you all?? First time ever seen that ? Clearly, no one in charge of high standards, anywhere. Only place to take the dog was a small garden, rammed full with tables, so not appropriate to use for necessary parts of a dogs day. On arrival, I was handed a restaurant reservation, that was accompanied with, here is your reservation, I am not sure if we or you made it ??? I am going through the menopause, but I am sure I would remember making a reservation? I rang from my room to cancel it. This is very poor practice indeed, others less certain in their morals may well have felt awkward about cancelling. And as for breakfast, well, everything squashed into a table. Very basic, and then there comes, is breakfast included in your £198 box room. An interesting one? The pleasant lady on my first morning, told me I could ignore the costs of cooked and order from the menu. A nicely cooked poached egg with avocado. Last morning, all guests squashed into one half of a very small room. There was JUST room to get through. The poor solo Lady, who proclaimed “ dogs” as she walked in, registered she was less than comfortable / frightened of large dogs. Mine a 45 kg Labrador and diagonal to me, a VERY large dog. So this meant the lady was sitting in the point of a very small triangle. Further, on her arrival to breakfast the man used a made up word to suggest cooked wasn’t included, a curious mix of included and not? Obviously, she and the other couple didn’t, thinking they had to pay an ADDITIONAL £10 for a cooked breakfast. Breakfast had no attempt whatsoever to use best practices learnt from Covid, that I have experienced first hand at other accommodation, with high standards of hygiene. Here everyone had to pick up the milk flask, touch the ancient hot water plunger thing, etcetc. I asked the man ‘would it not be better, thinking Covid, and space with dogs, to use tables in the whole area. The man scoffed and told me ‘there is no Covid now???? We are told to ‘pack them in??? Hmmm ????? Even so, Surely they knew there were four for breakfast that day? In fact, I suspect the leading factor, is the cleaners didn’t want to clean a larger area, so we ate breakfast like battery hens. Okay, now onto parking?? Behind the box rooms, a slither of land that tests ones 17 point turns??? I sincerely hope you are now of the mind to consider choosing else where? They do not deserve custom when the whole feeling was pompous and not clean, and if you didn’t join them in the bar for expensive food and drink, you were most certainly given a less than welcoming feeling. The ‘veritable’ inn has dark, gloomy rooms in the bar area. Clearly a place resting on its’ laurels of being a local for a long time. Are there better ways of spending £198 per night ? Yep, there certainly are. If I hadn’t been on 3 for 2 through Pets in Pyjamas, where I tried hard to see a glimmer of value in my £400????? Absolutely would have tried staying at Goodwood itself, at less cost ?????? Hmmm ??? Oh blimey, nearly forgot the toilet seats ??? First room, terribly distasteful area of yellow at the front, where, you know, they dribble. And the second room, maybe a fiver, one of those you sway on, as if at sea??? Contrast all I have said with our stay a month ago at The Old Mill at Lymington, a fabulous place in every respect. Stay there, it’s great. But this as another member of “Charming Bedrooms” I certainly have to question but maybe by “UPHAM” ??? inns has a certain appropriate ring, something is up somewhere, I am sure, to finish, I must stare clearly that I am not a moaner, who sees bad in all she comes across. But I do expect the cost to register a compatible standard and this one simply didn’t. I have paid less; to be in an understandibly small box room, literally round the corner from Buckingham Palace - check out Z HOTELS - they are great ! And must also stress, that I travel a lot for leisure, and as far back as I can actually remember, you won’t find another review like this under my name.

We received such a warm welcome from Chole, who continued to provide the most excellent customer service. All of the staff were great, but Chole stood out for us.
