“A great place and so dog friendly really made us feel welcome and the dogs are very included. The staff were super helpful and friendly, they explained everything on arrival. The dining room and snug area is a little small especially when busy and other dogs are in but very cosy and meant you could have conversations with other guests/locals who also use the facilities. The rooms were very spacious and had a private enclosed patio which was fantastic for letting the pooch out late at night. Rooms were very clean and no smell of dogs, decor was a little tired but acceptable. Beautiful grounds with a lovely riverside walk (a bit muddy so wellies recommended but that’s the time of year). Dogs are welcome in all areas at all times”

“Dogs aren't just tolerated here, they're actively welcomed. As well as the doggie pack in your room (bowl, placemat, homemade treats), there's an outside hose for muddy paws, towels, treats, balls & poop bags in reception, plus cheeky sausages at breakfast! New owners means dogs are now welcome throughout the hotel which was a nice surprise. With decent sized grounds on site and Exmoor & Dartmoor a short drive away the hotel is perfectly situated for walkies. Excellent food: the chateau briand was well worth the supplement. All the staff (espcially Tom) were friendly, professional & nice to the dog. Would stay again! (Worth noting the 1st Sunday of the month has a clay pigeon shoot in the grounds, if your dog is gun-shy!)”

“We stayed for the new year, a 2 night break including breakfast and evening meal. Very dog friendly, if you want to have your meal with your dog then just ask and they allow it. The food, over the 2 days, was probably the best I have ever had.”

“From the minute we walked through the door we had a very warm welcome at reception. Our room was lovely, the bar was very welcoming with a roaring fire. The evening meals were so so good and it was lovely that we could have our dog with. We will be going back again soon. Thank you for a lovely stay”

“We booked a very last-minute 2-night stay at the The Fox & Hounds in Devon. We had been looking for somewhere we could all go (2 adults, 1 x 8 year old child and our mini labradoodle) and feel comfortable - The Fox and Hounds was a perfect choice. Despite our last-minute booking we were given a very warm welcome and were delighted to hear that our doggie could accompany us to meals (he is not keen on being left alone in a strange place). The hotel was warm, welcoming and we had a beautiful room on the ground floor with direct access to the garden. The food at the hotel was wonderful and we ate there both nights. We would recommend this hotel for any dog owner - we were truly made to feel at home and there were plenty of other dogs so we never felt uncomfortable.”

“We stayed in the Heywood Suite which was a lovely large room with our own direct access to the hotel gardens. Plenty of space so didn’t feel too worried about COVID.”

“We really enjoyed our 3 night stay - the dogs were very well catered for with bowls and places to rest, and welcomed in all areas of the hotel. Special provision was made for my grumpy senior dog who needed space at meal times too. Human comforts were well catered for too! Gorgeous food, vegan options provided at very short notice and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Looking forward to returning soon, and excited to hear about plans for the future of the hotel with its new owners.”

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Our room was a bit tired but we understand that the new owners are about to do a complete refit. Also, the soundproofing in our room was nonexistent, especially between the bathrooms.

“Nothing but praise for the Fox and Hounds, we were made most welcome by all of the staff who were very friendly and helpful. As dog owners, I can say it is probably the most dog-friendly hotel we have stayed at, your dog can join you at mealtimes; and when a very muddy cockapoo jumped on the bed before we could rub her down, housekeeping was very helpful and replaced the duvet cover and gave us a covering sheet in case it happened again. All in all a great visit we will stay again in the future.”
