Lovely hotel with very friendly staff and genuinely dog friendly. Great menu with daily specials beautifully presented, everything we had to eat was very tasty. Drinks very reasonably priced. We had a ground floor room with its own patio area which again was a lovely and very large (two double beds) For price paid can fault it

The location of this country hotel is ideal for those wanting to get out and explore the delights of Devon, with differing attractions in all directions. Alternatively, one may wish to stay and explore the hotel grounds and walks, or nearby woodland walks. There is a railway station 100 yds away, with the chance to visit North Devon or Exeter and the south coast (dogs travel free). The hotel couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming to us and the pooch. Indeed, the owner even joked with us that they were considering it mandatory for all guests to bring a dog! Breakfast was superb (with a sausage for the dog), and the bar well stocked and welcoming. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, but the chef didn’t always hit the mark with his offerings. We would certainly return for a repeat stay at the drop of a hat, and that is the biggest compliment we can pay.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Despite obvious staffing problems this did not affect our overall experience. All the staff are to be commended for their hard work and friendly nature.
What a great little gem this is. Lovely accommodation, food & staff & VERY dog friendly. From the moment we arrived to our departure there was nothing to fault.

This was our first experience of 'dog-friendly' hotels since 2-year-old Barney joined our family during the lockdown, and our expectations were exceeded. The Fox and Hounds is a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, the staff were all very welcoming and friendly, and the food was very good although the menu was a little limited for vegetarians. On the second night of our stay staff shortages led to long delays between ordering and receiving dinner. This wasn't a problem for us as we weren't going anywhere so we weren't in a hurry and it gave us an opportunity for people (and hound watching), and chatting with our fellow diners, so we were pleasantly surprised on settling the bill that the cost of our drinks on the last evening had been removed to compensate for the delay on the previous evening, a nice but unexpected touch. We would definitely visit again in the future.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Other things that made my stay unpleasant enough that I gave up and came home on the third morning are, one of my dogs could escape from the patio as the gap to the side was wide enough for her to get through - this happened at 5.30 when I let her out for
Wanted a relaxing couple of days with my dogs and thought I would achieve this, especially at a cost of over £600 for 4 nights - how wrong can one be! First impression of the bedroom was positive, two large beds - one for me one for dogs, patio doors leading to small patio, brilliant for a night time wee - by dogs, I had a bathroom! The bathroom was not huge and had very little space for toiletries! No fridge in bedroom, but did have tea/ coffee making facilities. Went for walk with dogs in hotel grounds, they were amazing and plenty big enough to exercise my two dogs. No complaints about the grounds! Following our walk we went for a pre dinner drink and the staff were sooo friendly and helpful. My dining table was perfect for us, as the dogs could be put in a corner under my chair and not bother anyone. Ordered just a main course as I wanted pudding, I decided to have the rack of lamb - It arrived and meat was pink as I like it, but I struggled to cut the fat, in fact I asked for a sharper knife, which did not help! By now I realised that I should have sent it back, as it was raw! I asked for a doggy bag, but even my dogs would not eat the fat! I decided that I was still hungry so ordered the cheese board, which I took back to ur room. Breakfast next morning was nothing to write home about, it was adequate, but not what I was expecting for cost of stay. After a day out we returned to our room - what a shock - it hadn’t been cleaned, bed wasn’t made and the leftovers of the cheese board was still there. I went to reception and asked when was my room being done, to be told that on the welcome letter I had been given it explained that rooms are cleaned on the third morning! If I had seen this or been told this on arrival I would have checked out, as I suffer with Fibromyalgia, and one of the things I was most looking forward too was not having to make the bed, as I cannot sleep if unmade, as it causes pain!.

What a great hotel, staff very helpful, nothing is too much. Kitchen staff were amazingly accommodating a high allergy guest we had with us. Great you can take your dogs everywhere within the hotel with you. A perfect location to explore the surrounding areas of north Devon & North Cornwall. Would highly recommended and would definitely go back.
