“We had a lovely break at the Crab and Boar with our dog over the Easter holiday. The food at the pub was excellent, albeit expensive and the service was very good. Everyone was friendly and couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. Our room was comfortable and well appointed with very little traffic noise despite the proximity to the M4. We enjoyed some great walking nearby and the dog certainly had a good time. Our stay was slightly marred by the noise from the room above on our last night. We had seen other revues suggesting that ground floor rooms suffered disturbance from those on the first floor and this was certainly the case for us. Footsteps were very noisy as was the running of a very long bath and conversation which went on into the early hours. Otherwise, this was a super place to stay.”

“A 5* & more stay with the team at the Crab & Boar. We were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived, a warm welcome and shown to our room felt very personal. Our dog couldn’t have been more loved on his stay with all the team happy to see the little man! Breakfast & dinner were amazing with a great choice and definitely something I would reccomend to all to try. Rooms comfortable, warm and had all amenities required to make it a great stay. Only 10 mins from Newbury with plenty of dog walks around meant the Crab & Boar was a perfect hub to explore”

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Just poor value because of the problem we had, otherwise would be OK.

“The Crab and Boar is a lovely pub and dog friendly. The staff were very efficient and friendly and the room itself was well appointed, although when we checked in, the housekeeper had forgotten to remove the previous guest dirty towels from the bathroom .... this could have been as we requested an early check in so they were rushing. The big issue that we had was that we were booked into the only (apparently) room in the place that had another room above and the noise from the upstairs residents walking about was unbearable. When we mentioned it to the staff, it was a known problem and we were told that the hotel was listed so they were waiting for approval to have sound proofing put in and the issue was that there is a wooden floor so this compounded the problem. The hotel wasn't full so if the problem was known, why were we placed in this room or why were residents put into the upstairs room!! We stayed 3 nights, the first 2 were unpleasant as a result and we had poor sleep because of the noise but the 3rd night was very peaceful as the upstairs guests had checked out. If you choose to stay at this hotel our room was called The Roebuck, so check there are no upstairs guests when staying. Apart from this, the place as nice, food was OK although the dinner menu a bit limited we felt. Nice dog walks from the hotel as lots of footpaths nearby. Easy access to M4 but located in a quiet village.”

“A delightful place set within a beautiful area, perfect for dog walks across the South Downs. Renato and his team were fabulous instantly making us feel welcome and most importantly treating the dogs like royalty. An entirely dog-friendly place with nowhere off-limits (except his fish pond). The food is fantastic and the selection of beer was delightful. A few issues with the accommodation but they were addressed straight away and resolved. Highly recommended 10/10 for food and dog walking location.”

“We had the absolute best time at The Crab & Boar. Our pup Bruno was welcomed with dog biscuits and cuddles when he arrived and was welcome everywhere we went in the hotel and restaurant. The team couldn’t do enough for him including making sure he had a fresh bowl of water wherever he went too. There are plenty of dog walks surrounding the hotel too so lots to do to keep Bruno entertained. We wouldn’t hesitate to return for another stay. We have all come home very well rested and relaxed. (We also travelled with a 6 month old and the hotel were great at making sure she has everything she needed too!)”

“Had a great time with my Boxer and Bulldog! Lovely food and great walks surrounding, would come back again to stay! Room was spacious for 2 adults and 2 large dogs- overall happy with stay!”
