“We had a cosy three night break at the Hare and Hounds. Nice warm and comfortable room plus an excellent breakfast and evening dinner. Plenty of space around the hotel to exercise our dog plus lots of country walks right on the doorstep of the hotel. We were a bit bothered that our room was on the first floor and the stairs were quite steep. Luckily we and our dog had no problems but less able guests with an older dog would have struggled. All in all a nice stay in a nice hotel with nice friendly staff. We will return and will request a ground floor accessible room next time.”

“On arrival I asked if our room was made up as a twin as requested and was assured it was, on entering our room it was made as a double. It’s such a pity that this basic request can’t be achieved. The house keeping staff blamed reception and vice versa. A member of the housekeeping staff was very upset with our dog being in the room when she came to make the bed into twins and ordered us to hold on to her even though she was no where near her this made us feel very uncomfortable. The room was adequate and warm. As vegetarians we were very disappointed with the food over the Christmas stay it was underwhelming and tasteless and we both felt it did not live up to what was offered to meat eaters, I have emailed the manager to air our complaint and he did respond with an apology. I would not stay at this hotel again due to the poor food choice for vegetarians. We had little contact with staff other than the very negative experience on the first day so I cannot comment.”

“My second visit - this time with a friend and her dog so we had rooms opposite each other in ne if the cottages. Another faultless visit from the friendly reception team, to the beautifully comfortable rooms, a really delicious meal in Jack Hares bar and delicious breakfast. Thank you for another memorable break!”

“Thoroughly enjoyable stay in comfortable rooms and with great walks around and about. Loved the food (those scotch eggs were something else!) Only small point would be around breakfast with our pooch. The seating the lounge isn't really conducive to a relaxing breakfast . Could do with high chairs for breakfast on some tables. Outside if that a wonderful stay and Max loved his brekkie sausage”

“We had a great 3 night stay with our dog Storm. The room was big and there was a nicely prepared bed for him. There is a lovely large garden at the back of hotel for walking your dog. The hotel is situated near many interesting places like Westerbirt Arboretum which is 3 minutes away. Look forward to coming back again.”

“Our room was roomy, very comfortable and clean and it was easy to take Archie, our Springadore, out for a walk around the immediate area. The room was also near the car park which for us made it very easy unloading and loading the car. The food was very impressive at the hotel and we got to enjoy the new bar menu which had only been launched a day or so beforehand. Beware however that some evening meals do not automatically come with sides such as vegetables or potatoes so it is best to check and not assume. Very dog friendly hotel and staff, we were made to feel very welcome and Archie was given lots of attention.”

“wonderful break. Splendid hotel, Dogs catered for. Rooms clean and dog beds supplied. Staff friendly, cheerful and very helpful. The grounds are lovely and dogs allowed to run free. Doggie breakfast everymorning. Tinkerbell and I shall certainly return.”

“Really lovely hotel, staff were friendly and welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful despite the hotel also hosting a wedding the night we were there. The bar staff were fun and friendly and the breakfast team the same even though they had so many guests to look after. The room was exactly as described and perfect with a dog with wooden floors and direct access to the outside. Lovely gardens too. Brilliant stay would love to come back .”
