Masonry Waterproofing Cream
Microshield Ultra is a water-based masonry waterproofing cream, designed to provide long-lasting and reliable water repellence. It imparts a strong beading effect to mineral substances such as brickwork and façades.
Microshield Ultra provides comprehensive protection for brickwork and façades against efflorescence and destruction by water soluble pollutants. It also protects against frost damage and the attack of micro organisms.
Surfaces treated with Microshield Ultra also benefit from improved thermal performance. Heat loss through “wet” walls is reduced, improving the indoor environment and saving valuable energy and money.
Benefits of Microshield Ultra
Microshield Ultra is a creamy impregnating agent, based on silanes and siloxanes. Our waterproofing cream protects the material while preserving the water vapour permeability. It doesn't affect the appearance of the material surface.
Water simply beads and runs off, and the material can maintain its natural moisture balance. The remarkable penetration of Microshield Ultra into the substrate guarantees exceptionally long-lasting and reliable protection from penetrating damp.
Microshield Ultra is suitable for use on most kinds of mineral substances for example:

Bricks and clinker
Natural stone
Mortars
Render
Porous concrete
Concrete
Limestone

Beading Effect
Substrates treated with Microshield Ultra will exhibit a strong beading effect. This develops within 7  to 10 days of treatment. The beading effect lasts between 2-3 years depending on the substrate condition and exposure to weather conditions.
Preparation
Substrates to be treated must be in sound condition. Structural defects such as cracks, cracked joints, defective connections, rising damp and hygroscopic moisture must be remedied first.
Substrates to be treated should be dry and free from oil, grease, dust, dirt and biological growth (moss or algae). Any contaminated substrates should be cleaned in conjunction with BS8221-1:2000, “Code of practice for cleaning and surface repair of buildings. Cleaning of natural stones, brick, terracotta and concrete”. It is important when cleaning the substrate not to use detergents as these can interfere with the hydrophobic effect of Microshield Ultra.
Test a small, representative area to ensure the product is not repelled and also that the dry finished surface appearance is acceptable.
Applying Microshield Ultra
Microshield Ultra Cream can be applied by roller, brush or airless spraying at a rate of 0.2l/m². A single  application of Microshield Ultra at this rate is generally sufficient. Due to its creamy consistency, you can simply apply the waterproofing cream onto walls and overhangs without dripping or running. The milky-white cream disappears without any residues left on the surface.
After approximately 2 hours (@ 20 degrees celsius) the application is rain tight (this will be extended for colder conditions), the water beading effect develops within 7 days of treatment. Microshield Ultra is able to withstand even extreme weather conditions without any affect to its performance.
Microshield Ultra should not be applied in cold conditions when rain is expected within 24 - 48 hours.
NB: The substrate must be clean, dust free and dry. Temperature of the material, air and substrate: from min. +10 °C to max. +25 °C for a minimum of 24 hours.
Application Method

Clean and prepare substrate as above.
Apply Microshield Ultra by brush to areas close to non-target surfaces (windows etc.)
On larger areas, roller Microshield Ultra onto the substrate at a rate of 0.2l/m²
Visibly check substrate for complete coverage, brush Microshield Ultra into any deep joints or voids that may have been missed.
Leave Microshield Ultra to penetrate the substrate and develop beading effect.

Recommended by a neighbour due to a gable end that leaked every time it rained heavily with a southerly wind, applied as directed, the gable end has not leaked in over 2 1/2 years, applied to all outside surfaces of the house and feels warmer and has no further leaks, brilliant stuff

Painted on to stone wall with a brush. Very easy to apply, soaked in well. Dried completely clear, made the stone very slightly darker. Very happy with the product, albeit expensive.

Really easy to apply, mainly used the brush rather than the roller as we have rough old bricks. No rain forecast for a while but it’ll work.

It is too early for me to say how good the product is, as it was applied just days ago. What I can say is that the 'creamy' texture of this product is not rather misleading. It seems to drop and drip off the roller like water as soon as it gets rolled a second time over. So, working with smaller amount seems like the answer but then it doesn't get pushed into brick cavities if it is too thin on the roller. Applying with an airless sprayer might work but the reality of working with this stuff on a terraced house, means that overspray gets flying everywhere and on parked cars it is a sure way to upset the neighbours. So, application is not brilliant. How it works against the rain is still to be seen.

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience. Microshield Ultra is a water-based cream and is designed to be effective after just one application. It’s important to avoid rolling over areas you have already rollered - we’d recommend using a brush after applying to ensure the product has got into any deep joints or voids that might have been missed. Hope this helps for future! The Permagard team
