Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Bonding Agent
PermaBond SBR is a high performance SBR bonding agent. When added to sand/cement renders, cementitious flooring screeds and repair compounds, it dramatically improves the water resistance, flexibility and durability.
It is designed for use both externally and internally in areas of intermittent or continuous water contact. It is especially suitable for renders and floors with high abrasion resistance and for patching and bonding onto substrates of low suction.

How SBR Bonding Additive Works
The aqueous dispersion of Styrene Butadiene Copolymer gives this product its high performance water resistance.
Using SBR Bonding Slurry
An SBR bonding slurry is recommended to improve the adhesion of cement-based mixes onto surfaces of low suction. It can also be used as a treatment prior to applying any SBR-modified mix. It is ideal for dry substrates to prevent suction as well as non-porous and extremely flat substrates.
Preparation
All surfaces should be sound and free from any oil, grease and surface water.
If you are dealing with high suction surfaces, you need to thoroughly dampen them before the application of the SBR slurry.
You should prepare the surface by using a mechanical scrabbling or grit blasting to give a clean fresh exposed surface.
Applying the SBR Slurry
Before applying render or screeds, you need to produce the SBR bonding slurry. To do this dilute SBR Bonding Additive with an equal volume of water then mix to a smooth creamy consistency with ordinary Portland Cement.
The approximate mix is 1 part SBR: 1 part water: 5 parts cement (by volume). The resulting SBR cement slurry gives an approximate coverage of 30m² per 5 litres of SBR per coat.
Note: Do not over mix - you want to prevent excessive air in the SBR slurry. Hand mixing is strongly recommended.
The SBR slurry should be brushed vigorously into the surface to an approximate 1mm thickness. Apply subsequent coatings such as your render or top coat while the bonding slurry is still wet. If the slurry dries out then a further coat must be applied.
Other Uses of SBR Slurry

Rendering – produce dense impermeable renders in areas where water or chemical resistance is required
Bedding Mix - used for bonding tiles, kerb stones, coping stones, mosaics, brick slips
Patching Mix - used for patching renders or concrete.
Damp Proofing - SBR slurry can be used in basements where dampness is expected from behind the plaster
Flooring - produce high quality, hard wearing
