Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane - 5kg
This Epoxy DPM is a two-component, solvent-free, low odour epoxy resin membrane that is tolerant of residual moisture in concrete floors. This enables earlier access onto the floor for the application of screeds, coatings and other floor coverings including tiles, vinyl, wood and carpets. Our epoxy DPM has good chemical resistance to mild chemical attack, but is designed to be over-coated with other resin finishes.
The Epoxy DPM 5kg is supplied in two 2.5kg multi chamber bags. This allows for the full 5kg or just half to be mixed at once depending on the area to be covered.
Our Epoxy DPM can be used on concrete floors and fine concrete screeds, of not less than 50mm thick in the case of un-bonded screeds. The surface should be of sufficient quality and mechanical strength to ensure an even coating.
The product can also be applied to polymers, screeds and certain types of smoothing under-layments, as long as these are well bonded. These under-layments must be stable to the effects of water. If not, then the concrete floor must contain an integral damp. proof membrane to prevent further ingress of water from the ground.
If you are laying the epoxy onto a concrete surface with an ineffective damp proof membrane or where there isn't one at all, you need to consider the possibility of hydrostatic pressure. By creating a barrier layer, you will direct the pressure/water flow elsewhere.
If you have a large epoxy DPM job, you may want to consider our Epoxy DPM 5kg Tins.
Installing an Epoxy DPM
Epoxy DPM Multi Chamber Bag Mixing Instructions
Start by making sure the mixing surface is clean and free from sharp objects that could pierce the bag. Open the outer silver packaging along the perforation and remove the transparent multi-chamber bag.
Lay the bag out and pull the rubber dividing strip away from its plastic holder. This allows both liquid sections to flow freely into each other.
Important Note: Once this process has started the Epoxy DPM must be laid onto the concrete within 10 - 25 minutes depending on substrate and air temperature. The warmer the temperature the quicker the product will start to go off.
Mix the two components together by kneading the contents of the bag intensively for at least of 60 seconds. Don’t exert too much pressure on the bag to prevent it from bursting. A uniform resin should be achieved. Make sure both colour liquids mix evenly and there are no streaks. Remove the screw cap and tamper proof ring from the bag.
Pour the contents of the bag into a suitable container / roller tray or directly onto the substrate ready to be spread.
Alternative Mixing Instructions - Remove the rubber dividing strip and pour the entire contents of the bag into a suitable container and mix the contents using a slow speed electric mixer. Mix for at least 2 minutes. The Epoxy DPM is now ready to be applied to the substrate.
Epoxy DPM Application
Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane is always installed in a minimum of two coats 24 - 48 hours apart. For floors with a high RH Reading above 92% three coats are required. Once mixed the product has a usable life of approximately 10-25 minutes max depending on site conditions. Past this point the product cannot be used for further coats.
Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane is applied at 200 micron thickness (0.2mm) per coat. Although the epoxy will tolerate slight variations to this, we would not advise that it is applied above 0.5mm thickness as this could result in bubbling and curing issues.Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane dries clear, if you require a coloured finish we recommend 2 coats of Epoxy Resin Floor Coating after Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane has been installed.
If you wish to lay tiles or adhere any further coatings including self levelling compounds on top of this coating we advise that you blind the final coat of Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane with Fine Quartz Aggregate 30 minutes after laying the coat to provide a key for the tile adhesive or grout to bond to.
