“I was expecting to get just the usual accompanying text with photographs, what you really get is a personal story, very well written to engage the reader. As you read through each page you gradually get a sense of the frustration they must have felt that despite not being defeated themselves they were still being forced to retreat. A real privilege to be able to get this book today.”

“Good read for the eye witness accounts. Photos not enhanced, but I was expecting that as it is an unedited reprint. The book works for me.”

“A very interesting publication which fits in neatly with my other books on this subject. The war correspondent commentary gives a timeless impression of young men in action, particularly in one of the most violent engagements of the war even by Ostfront standards. I would have preferred sharper images but as this is a direct reprint, what you get is as printed at the time, no more no less. A useful addition to your library.”
