This is an interesting book of photographs of vehicles taken over and used by the Germans. If you are reading this on the Panzerwrecks website you probably already know that this was quite common, but the subject is not well covered. Most of them are of AFVs but there are many soft skinned trucks and lorries as well. There is little supporting text, just a four page introduction, and the rest of the book is the photographs and their captions. The pictures are an interesting set of clear black and white images. Only a handful are grainy or blurred due to the quality of the original image. They mainly show captured vehicles in use, but some are of wrecked or abandoned vehicles on the battlefield. I found particularly interesting the various designs based on re-engineered French hulls, and pictures of the many T-34s taken into German service are always worth seeing. Captions can make or break a book like this. Here they usually say what, where, and when, but a few add more detail. A major irritation is that some pictures are not captioned, nor is it always clear which of the adjacent pictures a caption applies to. Both would have been easy to fix. Physically the book is a well-produced hardback. Glossy paper allows the photographs to be very sharp with lots of details visible. So in summary, despite the odd niggle, this is a very good book on an interesting subject. If you are interested in German re-use of vehicles try ‘Panzerkampfwagen T34-747(r)’ by Jochen Vollert, a fascinating and detailed look at one particular type of AFV used in large numbers by the Germans.

Really good book. The images cover a whole plethora of vehicles. Just be aware that, while lots of the pictures are, not all the pics are of captured vehicles in German service, rather just knocked out and captured vehicles. Still a 5 star book, the images of the flamethrower Char B2, from the channel Islands, being my personal favourite along with the M3 Lees in German markings! This is a must buy book.
