“This massive volume covers the events surrounding the 15th Armee in the fighting in France in the summer of 1944. The organisation of the units before the invasion is detailed as are their positions at the time. The fighting is very well covered and ably supported by a great collection of photographs. The constant battle of attrition is explained very well indeed, reading through the text one can see the German defence crumbling. The British advance is very well described and the massive losses in men and material suffered by the Germans are graphically shown. Despite all this, a good part of the 15 Armee did manage to escape destruction and the scrambling that enabled this to happen forms the second part of the book. In summary, this is an excellent book with very good photographic coverage rounded out by beautifully written text that chronicles the chaos in France in the summer of 1944. Highly recommended”
