I have only had a quick look at this book but it's well reserched and well written, I'm looking forward to having the time to read the book.

Oh dear...eagerly awaited this after reading the superb Brandenburg Panthers book, but this is nothing like that. The majority of this book is a very, very detailed account of a Brandenburg Stug commander's escape from the Halbe pocket, which he did on foot with 2 other soldiers over a month. He's not a great writer, and the story gets repetitive and slow...lists every bush he hid under, every puddle he drank from, and every character he met, important or not. It's absolutely nothing like the story of Halbe told in the Brandenburg Panthers book; it is a microscopic view of one man's walk home, not a battle. More like a POW escape diary. The book sadly uses many of the exact same 1945 photos from the Panthers book, with nearly the same captions and the same maps. There's an interesting section at the start of the book about our soldiers time in A.A.8 in 1939-40, then in Pz.Rgt.204 in Crimea in 1942. But this is really just written as overview, and lacks incisive detail. A few great images here. Then at the end there's a good section on the 12th Armee retreat over Tangermunde bridge in May 1945, with great photos. Sadly, I'm left disappointed, even though its a worthy tale, it just didnt grab me. It has very high production standards and gorgeous photos, but the proof reading, which has left many simple errors and vehicle misidentifications, is not upto usual Urbanke quality...
