I have not read this tome yet but the book quality is excellent. The author Axel Urbanke does produce excellent, attractive and accurate books on various WW II German subjects which I already have in my library. So this title promises to be just as good.

This substantial 568!!! page book is the second in a new series, “Fotografiert von Soldaten”, from German publisher Luftfahrtverlag-Start. It features the unabridged diary entries, from 1941, supplemented by 200 black & white and 230, yes 230!, colour photos by Dr Hermann Türk, a medical officer serving with 3. Panzer Division. As in the first volume in the series, the photographs are give careful attention being reproduced to a very high standard. The book is a remarkable document and is produced with a real reverence for the unique material that it showcases. It provides a genuine insight into the experiences and perceptions of German soldiers at the start of the conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, from the outset of Germany’s campaign to the point where it ground to a halt in the icy winter of 1941 at the gates of Moscow. Dr Türk’s diary entries are honest and compelling, providing exceptional insights and a sober reminder of the nature of conflict. This is, put simply, a superb book.

This is a spectacular piece of work. The quality of the binding and materials used are first rate. Heavy in weight in both paper and content. The photographs are superb and so clear in colour they look like they were taken yesterday not nearly 80 yrs ago ! The text is fascinating and very enjoyable. Well worth the expense if this is your subject matter A book to save for and treat yourself to V highly recommended

Every so often a book comes along that is just stunning in terms of both the physical quality of the product along with a wealth of information, both written and photographical, that is a joy to behold. I must have over 1200 books in my military history collection. To the Gates of Moscow takes a top 10 spot in that crowd.
