Nice to see a personal collection of photographs taken by one man who clearly had an eye for what he was taking. The 'Start' format of books is a beautiful presentation.

Not a cheap buy, but if you are intrested in this subject, its a good deal. You get an internal look at the italian and african theater form an officer with some kind of overview. Some intresting details of vehicels can be seen. Its a personal document of history.

This book, the first in a new series, “Fotografiert von Soldaten”, from German publisher Luftfahrtverlag-Start is a substantial and lavishly produced 248 page showcase for a unique collection of 202 black & white and 56 colour photos taken by a German panzer veteran, Hans Becker, documenting his time serving in Panzer Regiment 8, mostly in North Africa, and Heavy Tiger Tank Battalion 508 in Italy. None of these photographs has ever been published before. NONE! They provide a unique insight into daily life for panzer crewmen, whilst Becker’s diaries and letters home provide an intimate narrative to the book. Becker was a talented photographer and, to do the photos justice, they have been reproduced to a very high standard having been scanned from the original negatives. There are, of course, plenty of great photos showing Tiger tanks and their support units, as well as many other images of AFVs and various equipment. The black & white photos alone justify the high cost of this book whilst the superb colour photos of Tigers in Italy really impress and are surely the icing on a substantial Tiger cake!
