This may be the most comprehensive and detailed book on miniature figure painting written so far. Kirill starts with covering basics like different types of paints and mediums, colour theory and mixes, and lighting concepts. Then he describes a number of techniques, including glazing, stippling, outlining, etc. and presents how to apply these techniques to paint various elements on a figure like skin, eyes, hair, fabrics, leather, wood or reflective surfaces, etc. in step-by-step examples, which together comprise 3/4 of the entire book. You can learn a lot from each part of this book and find something new even in sections covering basic concepts. For example, how to mix realistic shadows and highlights of each colour preserving their vibrancy, which I have not seen in other books yet. I like that materials are covered in several variants (e.g. light or dark, shiny or damaged leather) and include a very detailed and analytical description of each of them with multiple real reference photos. Figure Painting Techniques FAQ has a lot to offer and does not focus solely on presenting step-by-step painting processes like other publications on miniature painting sometimes do, which makes it so great. I would recommend it for everyone interested in improving their painting skills regardless of their favourite medium (acrylics, oils) and topics (historical, fantasy, sci-fi).

If you only buy one figure painting book, this is it! It covers everything, and unlike many books, it isn’t like a paint manufacturer’s advertisement. I took a while deciding to get this book due to the price, but I don’t regret the purchase at all.

Wow! This book is overwhelming in tips, and steps to build a figure and I appreciate the labor the author put into making this book. As a novice in figure painting this book will be a required item on my bench. Thank you for the book!

This book is a must for figure painters, whether a novice or more technically advanced. Comprehensive doesn't do it justice. It covers all scales, all mediums, oil or acrylic and covers all areas of interest, be it historical, military or fantasy. From understanding your medium, how paint, colour and light work to tackling the smallest characteristics of a face or fine detail on clothing this book is quite indispensable. well recommended.

Absolutely fabulous book. I highly recommend it for figure modellers. For those wanting to explore the science and techniques of using colour and light on 3D figues, especially with acrylics, this is the go-to bible. Well worth the price.
