“I have worn out two pairs of Berghaus Hillmaster Boots and just received a new pair. They have become my preferred footwear for everyday use, including motorcycling; they're not just for hiking. Obviously, I like them; here's why. They are very comfortable and suit my feet. I have never had blisters or other issues. They are high with good, well cushioned ankle support and have stiff soles that protect the feet on hard undulating surfaces. They are very waterproof and warm to wear but seem nicely breathable. The three uppermost eyelets for lacing are open, which helps to get the boots on and off easily. They are also very strongly attached to the leather, and I've never had a single eyelet pull out. The laces are good quality. On the worn-out boots, the laces were still intact and strong; although the ferrules at the ends had come off, the lace ends are not badly frayed. On some safety boots I had, the laces soon failed. The laces are also nicely grippy and usually stay done up, whereas smooth, shiny laces work loose all too easily. The soles have a big chunky tread that is easy to clean; some boots have narrow slots that trap small stones, which then have to be prised out. The bond between the sole and upper is superb; even on the worn-out boots, it's still strong and intact. The boots clean up amazingly well with a quick brush and polish; you don't get this with textile boots. In one worn pair, the leather of the upper cracked at the point where it flexes and creases most. After some close calls, I am wary of wearing boots with worn tread and become concerned about the possibility of slipping and injuring myself in a remote location, especially if it is wet, muddy, or frosty. So once wear, particularly on the heels, becomes too much for my peace of mind, I order a new pair of boots for hiking and relegate the old pair for use in the garden and for dry local walks. They are consistent in that each new pair has been identical to the previous ones. I also like Berghaus Trek textile boots, but each time I ordered a new pair, the design had been altered. ”

“These are my second pair after my first have worn out great boot still warterproof but sole has worn out after 3 years and lots of walking on roads and muddy towpaths.”

“Boots are great, traditional walking boots for hilly terrain. I bought fron ExteremeGB because that are one of the few online stores that stock half sizes (uk sizes). You need the right size in allday/multiday walking boot and somteimes that is a half size. Good service too.”
