Only had one trip out with it but overall impressed. Easy to set up and had no problem getting in and zipping up. I initially had it so that my face was out in the fresh air but a really cold East wind picked up in the night so I zipped it fully closed. I had no problems with feeling claustrophobic but I've seen people on you tube will but a top line through to keep it off your face. I had a sleeping bag inside and lightweight clothing but it was March and in a reasonably exposed spot. In summer I think you could easily dispense with sleeping bag and like many others I just left my hammock inside when I rolled it up. Not the smallest but has a decent compression bag and fairly lightweight. Something like this will extend your camping season by a good few months, and in a sheltered spot with a decent sleeping bag should be fine for winter nights.

It's been some weeks now, since I bought this product and I sleep almost every day in a hammock in my garden. I am so happy, I finally have some insulation system, which feels almost like it's all in one (sleeping bag and an underquilt in one). Almost, cause You definitely need a sleeping bag inside the hammock too, when autumn comes (in spring maybe its possible to sleep without a sleeping bag inside and during warm summer nights the cocoon itself probably not even needed...). I will test it also during winter. I am a winter swimmer and I can stand cold temperatures to some extend, but sleeping outside throughout the night in cold, windy and rainy weather is a totally different thing. You simply need to stay warm. While I wondered what system to buy, I did experiment with some military blankets as underquilt and extra blankets on top, which did work a little, but I would not say it made me sleep comfortable. And definitely not anymore, when autumn came. I considered other American brands, which make hammock compatible down sleeping bags, but they do not distribute them in Europe (pretty high delivery costs on Amazon) and those systems usually do not cover the head or face. So, when I found Snugpak Hammock Cocoon I was so ready to give a try! And I must say it was a great choice! Super easy to connect to the hammock and I so much appreciate that You can zip it all the way or just leave a small gap for air flow. Awesome. I recommend to connect a top zipper to the ridge line with a short cord, to keep it out of Your face ;). Actually just within few minutes after closing it, I can feel how my body warms up the space. It works! But there are 2 things which I find not so comfy. First thing is the fact that although it is somehow possible to be in a diagonal position, it will not be the real diagonal, You would like to sleep in. This cocoon limits the space of Your hammock noticeably, but I would say it is still not that claustrophobic and You can still move quite a lot. I can sleep on a side in it and in a slight diagonal position. So far I had many pleasant nights. The second thing is actually something I would definitely improve (and I am gonna make some modifications for that). I do not understand, why Snugpak did leave those pretty big free holes on each end? I am sure they considered different sizes of hammocks and they wanted to keep some air ventilation, but adding additional pullers would be just SO great! And I would say it's needed. I can really feel some cold air coming in when it's windy and I imagine it could be a problem in a winter time (if it will manage to keep some warm at all in winter.. we'll see..) and I find the zipper to be totally enough for air ventilation. Otherwise, so far I love it and will continue sleeping outside, as I am blessed with such a beautiful garden now and I want to train my body to adapt better to hammock conditions and it's just fun. I totally recommend the cocoon. But please, Snugpak, add extra pullers, cords, whatever at every end and Your product will be just perfect! Oh, and I wish it was available also in different colours (dark red, blue, orange..?).

Used it in a nighttime temp of 3 deg c, it works to replace both an under quilt or thermal mattress and sleeping bag though I did need a fleece bag and was wearing reasonably warm clothes. In colder weather I would need a sleeping bag or warmer clothes as well but I did not need a mattress which for me is a great plus as I find them very irritating. The great thing for me was that it keeps you warm without restricting movement and is easy to get in and out of the hammock and there is room inside to read/ use a phone etc . In terms of packed volume/weight its about 25% bigger than a thermarest mattress but lighter. One caveat, if you have a integral mosie net on your Hammock I'm not sure this would work. As someone who regularly canoe camps in summer so volume isn't so much of an issue this is a brilliant bit of kit.

This is a must have if you love your hammock dwelling. I have been out in -2C, with ice on the top and underside of my tarp, and ice forming on the cocoon, and I was warm enough with just a snugpak blanket (and my clothes). No sleeping bag, no hot water bottle and no electric blanket. It takes up the same space as a decent sized sleeping bag, but it does a better job if you are in a hammock. It is also brilliant in the wind, blocking all air flow, so you can build up some warmth when fully zipped up. It is so good, I have bought one for each of my family. Btw, I'm 6'2", broad shoulders and a side sleeper, and there is plenty of space.

Have camped four times now with this hammock cocoon. Lowest temperatures were 2-3 degrees. After lying in the cocoon for about 30 minutes I cool down and need a second sleeping bag at that temperature. I'm assuming I'll be able to sleep with only the cocoon starting in late spring when nighttime temperatures come up. Very nice fabric that is easy to spot clean. You can get a diagonal lay to some extent. I usually sleep with it zipped up entirely except for a small breathing gap.
