“I bought a Silva 70p years ago for my own boat, and I recently bought two more to equip two club boats which did not have them already. Silva 70p is THE standard, many sea kayaks are made with a recess to fit. The great advantage of a recessed compass compared to a cheaper strap-on model is that it is much more out of the way and unlikely to be smashed, like my original strap-on. The only small negative point is that some kayaks have thinner moulding, so that the screws provided come through, and the sharp point could damage stuff in the hatch, like a tent. At the price, Silva could afford to supply a choice of longer and shorter screwsx.”

“Works well. A little care is needed when fitting to make sure that the Lub line is straight. Easy to use. If using on a kayak, may not be great if your eye sight is not good as the numbers are quite small from a distance.”
