I have been using a no 4 for years and I was interested in the extra features of this compass. Works great in winter conditions. Accurate. The slope aspect feature is great too.

Bought this for an up and coming hike and I am impressed with the quality. Just what I wanted

The capsule is calibrated in 1 degree unlike its predecessor which is 2. This gives an illusion of accuracy that that is not found in practice. In reality it isn't possible to walk this accurately. Since we don't actually need to see the bearing it is of little use unless doing a paper exercise. (orienteering compasses don't even have a capsule let alone measurements. The loss of the long straight line on the base plate is annoying as it can be used to identify minor variations in tracks etc on a map. The calibrated lanyard as a complete waste of time and a gimmick. Purchased as a demonstration aid for when teaching navigation, and can be compared in practice to the Exped 4.

Bought as a gift for someone who is doing their ML, and it is a real improvement on the previous incarnations: clever markings on the lanyard for route planning, clearer bezel, inclinometer, all three UK map scales on the base plate, and the inclusion of a handy little card for measuring slope angles to warn of avalanche danger. What's not to like?
