“I am an Altra fan and I am liking these so far. The cushioning feels soft when walking and at slower speeds, but it firms up when running faster, allowing good ground feel - yet there is still a decent amount of underfoot protection from pointy rocks. They are soft and flexible, without a rigid heel cup or firm structured overlays, but it isn't hard to get a locked-down fit with a runner's knot. Extra points for the properly long laces!
I have had some issues with Altra build quality before (I'm looking at you, Timp 3) but these are much better. However I have managed to break a small section of stitching on the inner edge of the toe box by getting a foot jammed between two granite rocks on Dartmoor, but that would have been bad news for most shoes, and these are holding out ok with the slight damage.
I'm looking forward to seeing what v6 is like.”
“These shoes provide a great grip over wet and dry conditions. They have sufficient padding to make the shoe very comfortable under difficult terrain. Their wide toe box is perfect for me.I’ve worn them in very wet conditions in the Simonside hills and today in the Cheviots an all round excellent shoe. I am going to buy another for back up.”
“Very comfortable, natural fit. Feel like robust carpet slippers to wear. Fit for purpose on woodland terrain. No aches or pains. All the leg muscles working together as they should without unnatural cushioning.”
