“450 miles mainly fields, stoney trails. Small toe hole in upper after 350miles (siliconed). Plenty SPACE for toe splay, grip still good except very muddy conditions. I would buy again and looking for more wide comfy shoes/boots for work & casual....because my toes need it. Look at your foot shape and match it to the shoe shape...and enjoy :0)”
“Always wear Altra trainers. So far very pleased. Can't beat zero drop, but would love the same shoe, but with even thicker soles! Thanks to Northern Runner - super service and price. Will use again.”
“Pretty good, that's what I wanted for alpine easy hikes. I also use this for playing casual rugby because sadly there is no studded shoes with a wide toe box...”
“Altra provide a perfect set of running shoes - with the wide toe box a major selling point. Indeed, having worn Altras in recent years I now cannot go back to other (more restrictive) brands of footwear.
I already own a Lone Peak size 9.5 for running (along with an older Lone Peak size 9 - now demoted to walking only), and this additional paid was bought solely for walking to replace my older pair.
My normal size is a size 9, which in Altra Lone Peak fit very nicely, but in the last 12 months I have moved up to a 9.5 which allows yet more room in the toe box, which I prefer. (This also allows more space for foot swelling common when running). For the Lone Peak the increase in size does not seem to make the shoes feel too big. Whilst I also have Altra Olympus and Altra Paradigm (both size 9.5), I am very happy with those shoes for running, but perhaps the increase in size is more noticeable when walking (not so with the Lone Peak). Then again, perhaps I just need to adjust my laces in the Olympus/Paradigm?
All Altras also have the "Zero Drop", which keeps the foot in a more natural running position (with the toes and heel on the same level), and allow better push-off (especially when paired with appropriate toe socks such as those manufactured by Injini). Some element of "transition" may however be needed for those not used to Altra/Zero Drop, as the Achilles is not used to being in a Zero Drop position. This is due to the fact that other shoes/running shoes are built-up at the back in a way that isn't the case with Altra. Transitioning just means building up your use of Altra, and in the early days swapping between the Altra and old shoes. I transitioned really quickly, and have now only worn Altra for 2-3 years. My wife took no transitioning time at all, but much depends upon the type of ALtra and the cushioning levels.
The Altra Lone Peak is a good product and highly recommended. Especially for parkrun in wet/muddy conditions!”
“Second pair I’ve bought, nice and light, flexible, traction is great on those off road routes. Love the wide toe box area. My first pair lasted about 6 months but I battered them through the winter. Definitely recommend.”
“Love them! 2nd pair!
Light yet supportive.
Plus these ones are a great colour way :-)
Purchased as they have the “large toe box” which is much better for us in terms of balance and muscle engagement.”
