Comfortable, light, nice soft uppers, very roomy toe box, good feel underfoot. Only thing I'd say is the grip isn't the best I've had, especially in the wet, hence 4 rather than 5 stars. So perhaps not a year round do absolutely everything shoe but good for road and trails most of the time.

Altra don’t seem to consider the Superior a star show in their range but for me they are virtually no 1 - not as harsh as the King MT or as weighty as either the Timp or the huge Olympus. They feel responsive and have enough cushion for longer distances. Love the integrated tongue. Highly recommended

Fantastic shoe. Great fit for wide feet, great ground feel, good traction.

I found the action of the Quantic midsole in these shoes quite wooden and unresponsive. I prefer the Altra Ego midsole which I find flexes more easily and has more spring or ‘return’. For cross country or trail running I am now using the King MT which I much prefer because they use the Altra Ego midsole. For road running I am using the Escalante - again because of the ego midsole.

I’m very impressed with these. I actually used them for long-distance hiking for a couple of weeks on the GR5 in the Alps where I was doing 30km a day and they performed superbly - in muddy forests, dry and wet rock, gravel etc. They are a jack of all trades. The shoes have a small bit of water resistance so your socks don’t get soaked at the first sight of rain but remain breathable. I loved the flexibility of the sole and are very comfortable. I had no issues with rubbing etc. The only thing I would say is that on some boulder like sections, I wish I had some more protection so I probably wouldn’t use if I was doing a week of Via Ferrata or something. But 95% of time I was happy to be wearing these. I love the zero drop - other shoes feel like I am wearing platforms and throw off my gait completely. It’s been my first experience with Altra but I will definitely be buying more.

Initially was supplied with the removable Stone Guards but this was quickly sorted via Northern Runner (thank you!). The shoe runs like the previous version 4.0 but to me felt less roomy in the toebox (volume?) but midfoot lock was great and a better looking and structured upper.
