“A great shoe to replace my Torin 4’s the 4.5 look and feel stronger in the uppers and have plenty of cushioning along with a Great toe box, I did size up .5 compared to the Torin 4’s
All in all a great road shoe, that good I will order a second pair”
“Fantastic shoe. Made the switch from the Escalante to the Torin while training to increase my distances and think the extra padding makes all the difference. Will not be going back.”
“So far, I have found these shoes to be really comfortable.
I have wide feet, especially around the joint of the big toes, so the toebox shape Altra use is really useful to me. Even so, for comfort, I had to start the laces one hole further back than normal and keep the laces fairly loose at the front of the foot. This left the laces a little shorter than optimal.
The shoes are zero drop (heel to toe), but they are not barefoot running shoes - the front and rear are still cushioned. I found the calf muscles were a bit tired after a 10 km hilly street run - I view this as good training for the muscles, and I'm sure I'll toughen up. For walking, these shoes are so comfortable that I don't think I'll ever want to return to shoes with a heel.
The soles of the shoes are grippy. I've run in the wet and the dry and I haven't had any problems with grip. I'm less confident with the grip over wet trails, but these are, after all, road shoes.
Summing up: I like these shoes. I like the zero drop. I wonder about the build quality (only time will tell, but they may be a bit more lightweight than I would like). I wish Altra would make a wide fitting shoe (despite the wide toebox).”
“These are working well as a shoe for transitioning from heel striking to forefoot striking. They are zero drop, which helps change running style. But they are very highly cushioned, which helps make the change less abrupt by absorbing some of the impact that is now hitting parts of the foot and legs that aren’t yet used to it. Once my muscles and joints have adapted, I’ll be switching to something with a higher energy return for a more responsive feel (Escalantes?) and will keep these for long runs on roads and pavements.”
