(previous shoes; various cheap models, then ATR Challenger 3) Reviewer info: Casual runner in 50s, usually 5-12km, at a slow pace. Semi-offroad, frequently on slimy mud. Severe ankle injury (missing ligaments) mean lack of stability. Some shoe info (not in the specs); the gusset for the tongue is elasticated. Normally I use elastic lock laces, but these are not required with the Speedgoat 4. Shoes seem absurdly tall and wide. I have wide feet and bought the wide model. Fit me perfectly, really rare. Running, with fairly loose laces, the shoes are actually very stable and reassuring. Never once felt I'd turn my weak ankle, even on slimy, muddy banks. These shoes encouraged a change in gait, from long strides to a 'trip tap' light short style. I don't know if it was the shoes or the gait change, but I've had to watch my pace or I go out far too fast and blow up. I couldn't be happier with the shoes.

These shoes looked good. They were wide fit but still too narrow for me, so I had to return them. Disappointing as I would have kept them otherwise

Every thing about this shoes is great but just only one problem, the tab or placard (whatever it call) over the toe box peeling off from first time usage. I'm looking for any way to fix it.

Very good shoe: light given the high cushioning, stable ride, comfortable mid-sole and toe-box (good improvement on previous Speedgoats); however, feels perhaps less cushioned than the Speedgoat 2, also the structured support of the upper seems a little too-high and is rubbing my ankle bone (but maybe my ankle bone is too low....).

A game changer for me. They are wider, stronger materials, more responsive, amazing on the trail. They don't have any rub or hot zones like other Hoka's have given me. Will buy again. Also the sole is brilliant. I have a collection of high quality hiking and trekking boots, I know what a good Vibram sole should do. These have that magic, grip and speed. They will be used in a 83 mile extreme trail race shortly.

I wore them for the first time this week, in a marathon in Antarctica (just over 4 hours) in wind of 30 knots, and was first male back ( there was an awesome Norwegian girl ahead of me) and I was very pleased. A few people were slipping over on the blue Ice but I had good traction and I have a technique for snow and ice, but ultimately very pleased with this product, especially with the wide fitting option. Thank you Northern Runner.
