“It's simply the best running shoe ever, in my book. The quantic cushioning is absorbent, yet genuinely springy, which makes me wary of the shift to ego foam in later versions (I've had other Altra shoes with some version of ego, and I've disliked all of them). Durability is great: I ran in my first pair for two years, and now that the cushioning is a bit softer than is optimal for running I use them for walking around in, as the tread is still in good shape. That's why I ordered this second pair, rather than the Torin 5 or 6. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But capitalism needs its cycle of 'innovation' to try to persuade us we need the 'new and improved' model.”
“After many hours researching the best running shoe for a mortens neuroma I decided on these. They work to a point but for me they don't have enough cushion or plushness for running distances. It maybe the zero drop I'm having difficulty getting used to but I'm not sure, anyhow I'm now using them for work, I'm on my feet a lot of the time and so far the roomier toe box is definitely helping with the neuroma I suffer from. My next purchase will be a pair of 2e hokas to see if I can run in those. I think to be honest until I get medical attention with my foot then I'm destined to have pain! So my advice is simply, don't expect miracles from any shoe type or brand..”
“I don’t do a lot of road running but now find myself with an hour or two to spare whilst children doing sports clubs. My road runs so far have been just under an hour. The Torin feel light once on and the level of cushioning means that after the run I am not suffering from knee or hip pain which I used to when road running years ago. I am also finding that I am running on my forefoot more and with a higher cadence so I think I am running smoother and faster. Compared to my altra lone peak trail shoes the torins are less sloppy around the toes. These are by far the nicest fitting and feeling shoes I have ever had. Service and advice from northern runner was once again brilliant.”
“I bought the exact same model last year, trained and ran an ultran in it. When I needed a new pair with only a couple of weeks before an ultra this year, this was the model I chose once more. Best shoe for 100k+ I've run in. Simple as that.”
“I am a big fan of the Altra footwear brand and design. I found this design a little narrower than other Altras I’ve had, but they are still comfortable and suit my running form. The end of one of the laces came off quite quickly, but I melted the end of the lace so no problem.
As well as being comfortable these trainers also look good which is a bonus!”
“Tried as a more cushioned alternative to Escalante Racer I already have, which fit well. Torin 4 in the same size was oddly too tight on only one foot, and on the other the upper pinched right at the base of my little toe. Returned.”
