Decided to take the plunge and get myself some vj and I wasn’t disappointed. Having run in a variety of shoes throughout the years and suffering from injuries to my feet as a result of sharp rock penetrating through, however, the xtrm has no such issues. The rock plate works well and dumbs down them sharp edges, however, there is still a lot of feel. They also hold you feet like a firm handshake, with no foot movement whatsoever! Grip is not to aggressive, however, they stick really well to whatever surface you run on. Plus, they clear out very quickly! The only issue I have is a slight rub in the upper toe box, however, I can live with that! Great bit of kit!

Amazing grip! Sticks to the ground like no other shoes I have used. But also due to the softness of the rubber have worn down quicker than any other shoe I have worn. All lugs nearly totally gone after less than 300 miles of running. Size runs a bit small, so worth sizing up. Also no internal liner which takes a while getting used to, but this means they drain and dry super quick. I could really learn to love this shoe if they were only a bit more durable in the outsole.

I loved the shoes. Unfortuanately they were a bit narrow on the forefoot for me so had to send them back. I wish they came in more than one width size. Service from Northern Runner has been absolutely outstanding and after care has also been brilliant. Thank you

I spend much more time on road and trails than out and out fells - I got these for when I can get to Snowdonia or the Lakes (or when it gets muddy in Dorset). Used so far in the Lakes on damp ground and greasy paths to snow-dusted summits, for max 3 hour runs. Comfortable while being able to feel harder paths on descents. Seemed pretty grippy, but not tested in proper mud so I'll let more experienced folks opine on this. I love the fit - was worried they'd be too narrow. I use UK 12 in On and Mizuno and UK 12 in these VJs seems to work for me. They're nicely snug without being tight across the toe box (obviously narrower than Mizunos, which are probably slightly too wide for me anyway, but better fit for me than some of the narrower inov8s). I'd agree with NR that these are more fell than trail shoes. Oh, and the colour s rock!
