“I’ve run in all the Altra shoes ..The Instinct being my choice of them all as they suit my feet which are flat as a pancake ...
These Sjoes had a lot of protection and felt comfy till around mile 5 and the sole of the shoes on my right foot started leaving an indent in the inside of my foot so they are not as wide as all the other Altra shoes I’ve run in !! I’m talking about 2 1/2 inch line so disappointing...
Instinct 4.5 I bought too and they are fab...”
“I've only done a few short runs so far and these are my impressions:
* Light as a feather.
* But upper material is so wafer-thin, the wind blows straight through them. My feet were freezing on a windy March day in Ireland.
* Slightly concerned the overlays are crinkling on top of my little toes and might cause abrasion there
* Still not 100% sure about midsole. Need to do a much longer run in them. Definitely not the same feel as the Escalante. Very stiff. Lacks the usual Altra plush cushioned feel despite the stack height.
* As mentioned by others online, stones got caught in the outsole tread almost immediately.
* I've also seem quite a few complaints about its durability which is a common Altra issue.
* The usual very poor Altra heel cup design but at least this one isn't bloated. Needs heel lock lacing.
I had intended them to be the replacement for an old pair of Paradigms and Hoka Clifton 3's on marathons and ultras etc. A couple of long runs will decide if it's up to the job but my feeling is that it's more of a short distance warm weather shoe.”
