“My second pair of these, and my fourth pair of Altras. Light, comfy sock like fit, cushioned, zero drop. I do most of my running on tarmac or country tracks.”
“My 2nd pair of Escalantes having been impressed with how easy it was to 'transition' into them. I've got quite wide feet which is why I looked at the Altra in the first place and although they feel a bit loose at first try after your first run you feel they fit just right (my toes appreciate it after a long run). I bought a UK 11.5 size and they fit nice, I have previously worn saucony size 11/11.5. Although I have another pair of Altra shoes (instinct 3.5) that are 11.5 and are just a few mm too short making them difficult to wear for more than 10k without getting a sore big toe, so beware if you're looking at other altra shoes.
My first pair lasted well as I have a habit of going through shoes like they're going out of fashion. I definitely got a few hundred miles out of them before the aches and pains started and indicated I needed some new shoes.
I have worn them for training short and long distances but I have also raced in them recently setting a half marathon pb. In all occasions they have performed well and I'm convinced they have helped (along with some new training techniques) to become more efficient in my stride.
Overall I am loving the escalante, even if I do have to explain why they look a bit strange everytime someone new sees them.”
“These trainers look and feel great - there is that slight issue with the upper pressing on your fingers so do go for a fill size bigger than normal. I am an UK8 and initially got a UK8.5 so I had to return that for a UK9.
Due to having to go a size lager the trainers look slightly bigger than I am used to, however, once you get running you will feel nothing but clouds under your feet.
So well worth it.”
“I love my new Altra running shoes, they're quite different from my regular Asics which now feel like a pair of crash helmets for my feet. These Altra shoes are almost unlike shoes, they're barely present. Its probably the closest you can get to running bare foot across a padded carpet. Just because they're so light I'm expecting them to wear out pretty soon if I start running on rough terrain but I cant fault the build quality, I love them. Get a pair and save them for special occasions or for those days when you want to run free like a wood nymph skipping across water lillies.”
“Lightweight. Very thin upper with a slightly elastic fit. Cushioning feels very soft underneath. All of these are good things in my opinion! Design of the sole is not flat, so lends itself to fast movement. As usual without Altra, good ergonomic fit.”
“Having run a reasonable amount on trails in Altra Lone Peak 3.0, I wanted something similar for the road. I also wanted something with low/zero drop but with a bit of extra cushioning ahead of the Comrades marathon this June. When I saw the Escalante being released, they looked just the job, and I'm happy to report that they're an excellent shoe. The knitted upper is wonderful and there's just the right amount of cushioning whilst still being lightweight.”
