Parrot Backpack Carrier Reviews

Read Northern Parrots Reviews

This innovative bird travel carrier is a great way for you and your bird to get out and about. Your bird may prefer to see their surroundings, in which case you can simply roll up the curtains and clip out of the way, leaving the stainless steel mesh uncovered. If your bird feels more secure in an enclosed environment just roll the curtains down and keep in place using the Velcro fasteners.
Inside are two holders for the two metal cups (supplied). You can use these to provide your bird with food and water, or perhaps some foot toys to help keep them entertained whilst you travel.
A wooden perch is also supplied which you can attach securely to the metal ring holes at the side of the carrier. There are a number of holes at different heights so you can fix your bird's perch at a height to suit them
The detachable straps are fully adjustable so your Parrot Backpack Carrier can be worn comfortably as a backpack or on your front. A detachable shoulder strap is also provided - see which you find most comfortable.
Your Parrot Backpack Carrier can be fully opened out so you can wash it when necessary (hand wash only) and has a removable bottom panel to make daily cleaning easy.
When not in use it is suggested to fold the carrier flat. It folds flat for easy storage and assembles in seconds. Check the carrier regularly and watch the bird to prevent the carrier being damaged.
Please note - although all possible steps have been taken to minimise chewing opportunities some birds will find a way to chew anything and everything!
However, you know your bird best and with some planning you and your bird can soon be enjoying exploring the world together.

I have a tiny parrotlet and for him this is wonderful, the cups are a bit big for him to put water in as he might fall in, so I have filled them with tiny foraging toys and paper so he can rootle about in it for seeds. He helped set it up which meant he was curious about it and eager to explore it and now I have some fun perches and toys in there he likes to make it a little den, we are just waiting for better weather before we go outside with it.From a human perspective the straps are a little too large and could do with being able to adjust to make a bit tighter but it is comfy enough and very secure...though it did take me a while to work out how to attach the straps so a small instruction leaflet would be a good idea. Also maybe a small pocket - maybe underneath like you get with some swimming bags? This would be good to put food etc in.This will be great for sitting in the garden and vet visits and also if we have to make an emergency evacuation like for a fire or something then I can use this to transport him and he can happily live in it short term which is a bit relief and makes it well worth the money.

I wrote a four-star walking-cycling review for this carrier shortly after I bought it 3 months ago. Since then, the zips have started to wear, the bird has chewed the carrier inside and out, and he has lost a couple of tail feathers which I suspect is due to his position in the carrier and lack of grab-rail.I would recommend it for occasional use only.

I was recommended this product by some fellow parrot owners, and was not disappointed. Build quality appears excellent, it appears to be robust yet very lightweight with multiple carrying options including as a backpack, hanging from a stand, or secured in a car. This has made life a lot easier when going out and about with my birds. Customer service were excellent in dealing with a minor problem I had with the perch initially. My green cheek conure initially found it a little more intimidating than a conventional travel cage but it only took 24 hrs to overcome this, and shes now very relaxed with it.

I am happy to say my bird seems to prefer this to his original carrier which was imported from America, and is falling apart after a year of heavy use. I bought that one because Northern Parrots had none in stock this time last year.My new Northern Parrots one has a larger horizontal area so my bird is able to turn round easily to face forwards and backwards. Though he does have a bit less vertical room, which is only relevant when we sit down, he tends to go horizontal when we are moving. It also has a better view of the sky and lets in more light so you can see him better This is great except everyone else can see him better too. Though I guess people who take their parrots out in carriers are used to finding quiet spots and to exotic creatures making everyone in the vicinity forget social distancing. The perch it comes with is soft and chewey, makes a good beak sharpener. I hope replacements are available. I give food and water by hand when I stop, by unzipping the door.Suggestions:It would benefit from having grab-bar to help the bird balance, which my original had.My original also had a selection of perch types and thickness options. -Fortunately I was able to transpose the old ones to this new carrier as it is the same width, and this gives him a choice of three perches twisted together and helps him balance. It could also do with hooks to hang a toy from and a more stable system for fitting the little food potsI would really like a little door for feeding and head-scratching this would really be appreciated, and be safer than unzipping the big door. But over all very happy with it.

I bought one of these last year, soon after acquiring our CAG. I love it, he seems to enjoy going out in it. We use it for going out for walks, and also for car journeys. It works well strapped in by the seat belt, though does need something under to enable our parrot to see out!As the product details imply, parrots will chew - and this has been the case with our carrier. Its all very well to recommend watching a bird, but if you are driving, its not always possible to intervene. My parrot mangled one of the metal rings that edge the holes for the perch. I was horrified, as this could easily have caused injury. Ive solved that particular problem by rigging up a complicated arrangement of leather squares and wooden bits, tied on with leather laces. He ignores that bit now, and chews the plastic by the zip. Before I had realised the chewing potential of the carrier, my parrot had merrily nibbled much of the piping on the outside of the carrier, whilst he was exploring its exterior. I wonder whether there might be a slightly tougher material to use for these bits?To echo another reviewer, I also thought the carrier was missing a grate to keep the bird from walking in his droppings. I have used an old stainless steel cooling rack, but am missing it from the kitchen and would have thought it would be included in the product. With regard to the little feeding pots, it would be good to have the option, i.e. some additional velcro, to fix them at the front or back of the interior. In the car, our parrot likes to face out, so he can see, but this means his food and water are behind him. He ends up not having any, as turning round whilst whizzing along in the car is not an easy business.. If it was in front of him, he might be less inclined to chew the carrier...Otherwise, the carrier is a very useful bit of kit, but a few tweaks would make it better, and more long lasting, given that it is very, very expensive to buy.

this product is amazing aside from the water bowl Im the motion of walking is causing the water to spill. leaving my Senegal with very little water. dose anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about using a rabbit bottle and clipping it through one of the holes

I have a three year old African Grey called Murphy. She is harness trained but I was looking for an additional way of taking her out when windy or multitasking. This is the solution. It has taken three months for her to find the courage to explore the carrier but now she has she loves it and we have now been out with it several times.Well made. Easy to assemble. Perfect size for a Grey. She feels very safe and secure inside.Great idea. Well executed.

Delivery excellent, putting together very easy - my TAG went in eventually and has settled nicely and I am looking forward to taking her out. I would give this 5 stars but the wee black bags for the feed and water has been made incorrectly with the Velcro strips and wont attach to the Velcro on the backpack - unless I have got this totally wrong as there were no instructions
