Arcadia PureSun Compact UV Bird Light - Screw Fitting Reviews

4.8 Rating 15 Reviews
Read Northern Parrots Reviews

This Compact Fluorescent Bird Light has been updated and re-designed for 2019. It emits as much UV as a full length fluorescent lighting tube and is ideal where space is at a premium or if a fluorescent tube won`t look `right`.
Although it`s only 20w it shines as brightly as an ordinary 100w bulb and will give your bird all the health benefits of natural sunlight.
It should be used between 6 - 8 hours a day.
Providing the correct levels of UVB allows your bird to synthesise Vitamin D3 in their skin, or through a special process involving the preening gland. Vitamin D3 is essential for proper calcium metabolism. This is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of strong bones and egg production.
Birds have specialised retinas that enable them to see UVA, helping them to recognise mates, locate food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are deprived of the full colour spectrum they see in nature and are colour blind. Unlock their world and let your bird see it in full colour.
UVA is essential for the psychological health of your bird. Using lighting that emits UVA can also help to curb feather picking and other destructive behaviours.
Please note: Can only be used with Arcadia lamps, not Avian Sun/ZooMed.

All diurnal animals benefit from UV lighting as it allows vitamin D3 synthesis, as would naturally occur when under the sun and doesnt risk oversupplementation as the process is self regulated. Since using the light my amazons colour and mood has improved vastly and monitoring how many hours he receives around breeding season has alleviated how hormonal and aggravated he becomes. My only concern is that the product does not come with any instruction of fitting distance from the cage, as I know from reptile keeping theres an optimum distance it needs to be fitted from the animal to provide the correct UV percentage, as stated on the box and prevent eye damage from being too close. After looking at Arcadias website I found this distance to be 50cm, maybe this could be included in the product description on your website too?I also noticed a fellow reviewer stating after a year her bulb is still going strong but the bulbs need to be replaced at least every 12months due to the deterioration of the element that produces the UV light, maybe this information could be displayed in bold to reflect its importance?

Thank you for taking time to write your review. It is always great to hear about the positive affects UV lighting has on a birds mood and behaviour. We have contacted Arcadia and had a reply from John Courteney-Smith MRSB (Head of Science and Innovation). He has clarified that the compact bulb when used with the reflector should be fitted above the head and not side on in to the eyes, and it should be fitted 10"-12" from the top of the birds head when sitting on the topmost or 'basking' perch. We have updated the information on our website along with your suggestion of making it clearer the bulb need replacing within 12 months, this should appear on our website shortly.

I ordered this, and when it first came, there was a problem with the product, mint started making noises that it shouldnt have made, so I emailed Northern Parrots and spoke to them, they sent out the replacement on the same day, while I posted the faulty item. The replacement arrived and it works perfectly. I would still recommend this product to others, and also the customer service is 100 per cent, and I just cant fault it.

When I first bought this I was of the understanding that it would fit into any household screw fitting light. Well it didnt, it was way bigger than any of mine so I had to come back and buy a lamp for the bulb. However since that arrived it has been working great and have already seen improvements in her behaviour in the couple days shes had it. So I would recommend it to others and will be buying more as and when needed.

Had only bought a lamp a couple of months ago but the light fell off table and the bulb smashed inside lamp an expensive accident but my birds love these lamps and it has helped with feather plucking.
