Buy the fully adjustable floor lamp (designed for use with Zoo Med`s Avian Sun Compact Fluorescent Bulb) and the Fluorescent Bulb together and save. Provide the correct and essential UV level to allow your bird to see as nature intended.
Providing the correct levels of UVB allows birds to synthesise Vitamin D3 in their skin, or through a special process involving the preening gland. Vitamin D3 is essential for proper calcium metabolism. This is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of strong bones and egg production.
Birds have specialised retinas that enable them to see UVA, helping them to recognise mates, locate food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are deprived of the full colour spectrum they see in nature and are colour blind. Unlock their world and let your bird see it in full colour.
UVA is essential for the psychological health of your bird. Using lighting that emits UVA can also help to curb feather picking and other destructive behaviours.
The reflected light should be fitted above the head and not side on into the eye.
The lamp should be fitted 10-12" from the bird's head when it is sitting on the topmost or basking perch. The special UV coating is designed to last 12 months when used for an average of 8 - 10 hours per day. It is recommended to provide a break for an hour or two to allow afternoon resting. It is flicker free.

This is the only UV lamp I could find which would reach the top of the cage and still maintain minimal safe distance from the top perch. As other users already said it's a bit wobbly but nevertheless it's a very good product. My grey is still a bit wary about the lamp and keeps away while foraging near the bottom of the cage. On the other hand, my budgie came as close as possible and started sunbathing immediately as I turned it on the first time and is doing that at least twice a day.I put the lamp on a timer to provide them both with needed UVA and UVB every day.

I was looking for a UV light but not sure of this one or the alternatives version. Put off by the alternative by exposed wires. This one has no exposed wires, and as it stands alone over the cage it is not possible for my African Grey to reach it.The light distribution is good, and flexibility of the arm of the lamp offers much option for adjustment. My cage is over 5 foot tall but the light is still tall enough to provide light from above the cage.Easy to put together and a nice looking lamp stand.Pleased with the purchase.

Sturdier than I expected based on some of the other reviews. Perfect for adding full spectrum light to my bird room. I think I may need to order another one. I have been rotating this one from cage to cage.

I ordered this as I wanted to try and prevent my Caique from plucking his feathers, within the first week, I noticed a difference with my Caique, I forgot to use the lamp one day, and Peaches, was very moody and really bad tempered, as soon as I put the lamp on, Peaches, was a different bird. I would recommend this product cause I have found it very useful for my bird and believe its on of the best things, I have brought for him.

I bought a sunlamp for my 'tiels as they cannot go outside for their UV (too many avian predators around).Setting up the lamp was a hassle. My cage is a San Diego and I had to stand the lamp on top of my desk so it would be high enough for the recommended distance from the tallest perch! Getting the shield on was difficult, only when a tiny piece snapped off did I manage it! It refused to stay upright properly, leaning over so badly from it's base I had to use a Y perch to make it stay still.Get an avian lamp for your birds if they cannot access UV, but DON'T pick this one!

I bought this floor standing light as it was the only one I could find anywhere. It looks okay but the springs and adjusters that keep the light fixed in a certain position need to be stronger as if even a small parrot lands on top of the light is sags down onto the cage. The light emitted does appear to be very bright and the room appears very dark during the evening after I have switched it off.
