Parrot Palm Nut Fruit Extract Oil - 500ml Reviews

4.4 Rating 49 Reviews
Read Northern Parrots Reviews

Loved by Parrots, Palm Fruit Extract is derived from the natural food source of the African Grey Parrot, the fruit of the West African Palm.
Palm Fruit Extract comes in an unrefined state having only been cold pressed and filtered to remove solids left over from the pressing process.
It improves feather condition and colour and is also a useful dietary supplement for breeding birds.
Simply spread a small amount daily on your Parrot's food, or for an extra special daily treat spread the palm oil onto a piece of dry toast.

After reading the great reviews about this product I thought I must buy it for my cockatoo.Well, there was no fooling Miss Fussy, she hated it! After many attempts of spreading it on her favourite foods, they were soon launched across the cage.Such a shame, as a generous sized jar, but it was not a success for my choosy-bird.

Want your CAG to eat a new food item it isnt sure about ......no problem, cover it in palm oil! Great on toast, melted on chopped vegetables, cous cous, rice, pasta, egg. Its simply brilliant, I always keep it in the fridge! Its really good for them too. We have used it for about 2 years now, and his beak cracking has completely gone, his feathers are really healthy with a lovely shine. After he has finished eating it his beak looks so shiny and smooth. Warning - you will need to bathe your parrot as this is an oil and it spreads when warm. It turns our CAGs feet and face orange. Also, I know it seems obvious but, dont use a spoon that already has any food on it, or that you have wiped clean. If you do you may get mould growing on the oil when its in solid form. Best use a clean spoon, and keep it in the fridge.

I have bought Parrot Palm nuts frozen in the past for my parrots but they werent too fussed about them. I heard the palm nut extract and thought I would try it. My grey can be fussy about new foods and colours but she has really taken to a couple of toast crusts with a little extract spread on them.. The texture is different to her and she clicks and rubs her beak but she does eat it off the toast, it doesnt end up dropped in the bottom of the cage.. in the day I have given her a little on the end of a Tidymix garlic stick and she will sit with that for a few minutes too.. I think in the wild they must rub their beaks in the palm nuts to get the oil to condition their beaks as I have seen some unusual and different behaviour in Polly in a good way. I have recently moved home and was worried Polly may be unsettled but the food supplement seems to have been a good thing and she has got into a new breakfast and preening routine. Anyone with a fussy eater give this a try.
