Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra Tints 424 Spruce, 425 Oak, 426 Larch, 427 Douglas Fir, 428 Cedar, 429 Natural, 431 Light Cedar & 432 Light Oak are a range of transparent, lightly pigmented UV protection oils designed to enhance and protect the timber they are applied to.
Osmo UV Protection Oil Tints (formerly known as Extra) are a range of transparent, lightly pigmented, natural oil based, satin wood finishes for exterior use, similar to the market leading Clear Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil but with a light pigment to further enhance their UV protection. They are 424 Spruce, 425 Oak, 426 Larch, 427 Douglas Fir, 428 Cedar, 429 Natural, 431 Light Cedar, 432 Light Oak. Please note the 429 Natural contains a small amount of white pigment to offset the standard wet appearance of oils but that does mean it is only suitable for light coloured woods and a test area should always be done first. There is also a c lear version of Osmo UV Protection Oil without any biocide called Osmo 410 UV Protection Oil.

The microporous surface allows the wood to breathe and reduces swelling and shrinkage. The water repellent surface will not crack, peel, flake or blister. When used as a top coat on already colour treated wood, Osmo UV-Protection-Oil Tints prolongs the renovation intervals significantly. As a single product application, it blocks the greying process on vertical surfaces with a UV protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood when two coats are applied. The finish contains active ingredients that prevent mould, algae and fungal attack. Without sanding, simply recoat. Easy and seamless application. Finish stays workable while coating.

Recommended Areas of Use:
Osmo UV-Protection-Oil Tints is ideal for all vertical wood surfaces in outdoor areas: doors, windows, window shutters (dimensionally stable elements), carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, and summer houses (dimensionally unstable elements). Also suitable for bamboo poles (e.g. in screens). For areas that do not meet the requirements of a 15° fall off we would recommend looking at Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain.

Key Product Benefits:

Very Water and Dirt Resistant
Contains active Biocide to reduce algae, mildew and fungal attacks
Reduces Wood Shrinkage and Swelling
Microporous Breathable Finish that doesn't crack, peel, flake or blister
No sanding back required when maintenance coat required
The Pigments give enhanced UV Protection over Clear Version

Storage:
Up to 5 years and longer if can is kept dry and closed tightly. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use. Keep away from direct sunlight or sources of heat.

Surface Preparation:
Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%). UV-Protection Oil Tints is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use. If possible, please apply first coat to all sides before installation.

For renovation works, clean old microporous stains thoroughly – if necessary sand lightly. Clean and restore already greyed or weathered wood at the same time with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works. Do not sand smooth surfaces finer than grit P120.

The finished surface is influenced by several factors, including the natural characteristics of wood. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.

Fresh, especially hardwood rich in extractives (natural oils) needs to weather for at least 6-8 weeks after installation. This allows the wood to become absorbent so that the oil finish adheres optimally.

If additional protection against blue stain, rot and insects is desired, pre-treat the wood if possible on all sides with Osmo 4001 WR Base Coat.

Methods of Application:
With a natural bristle, Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well. Do not apply at temperatures below 5°C or when the temperature is likely to fall below 5°C during the drying period. As with all waxes and oils the product will become thicker and harder to apply at lower temperatures so if possible we do not recommend applying below 8°C. Do not apply to surfaces above 35°C, take special care with darker surfaces that are fully exposed to the sun.

Allow to dry for approximately 12 hours with good ventilation then apply the second coat. Alternatively the second coat can also be carried out with UV-Protection Oil 420 Extra Clear.

When recoating colour treated surfaces, or for renovation works, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient.

Cleaning of Tools:
Osmo Brush Cleaner (free of aromatic compounds) is recommended.

Drying Time:
Approximately 12 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C & 50% rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity can increase the drying time. Allow for good ventilation while drying. The ideal application temperature is 10°C -
