It’s an insurance policy very difficult to rate it as we didn’t need to claim. The experience of buying is no different from any insurance.

Seemed fine. No claim made so can't say whether it would have been good at this.

If you had to claim how happy were you with the way it was handled?
The claims portal provided by Leisure Guard, or AXA, or excessclaim.co.uk, is poor. There are so many layers to this insurance it's difficult to know how many different companies are involved. The insurer is unable to contact the car hire company for the required documents, even though the car hire company appears happy to provide all of the required documents (they even ask for the insurer's contact details so that they can do this for you). So far the budget car hire company Thrifty/Hertz seems a lot more organised and customer-oriented than AXA. It's like a website from 1998. They even ask for signed documents such as hire agreements. It's 2023, and every car hire is arranged online (usually through a third part broker). When you collect, you sign a tablet. Nobody is giving out signed documents. Why is this considered a reasonable request? It would take all of 5 minutes to just contact the car hire company and get every piece of information you need. The portal does not provide an upload option for every requested item. And some documents are not asked for when making a claim so then the process is slowed down because they have to then request the documents from you afterwards. I feel like this is an extremely inefficient and convoluted process that requires the customer to do all of the work of collecting and uploading documents when the simplest solution would be for the insurer to just contact the care hire company directly. I just cannot recommend this company for car insurance, I feel like an unpaid employee, not a customer.

Many thanks for the time you have taken to share your experience of LeisureGuard and the AXA claims process. When LeisureGuard moved their claims handing to AXA earlier this year they anticipated that the process would replicate that they experienced when they moved their Travel Insurance claims to them too – which was excellent. AXA have accepted that it is not as user friendly as it should be and are currently mobilised to revamp the portal to ensure future users do not have the same experience as you have. Your feedback has been really useful though and when the revised system is tested they can make sure a situation such as yours would be avoided.

This is such a good service - much cheaper and more effective than buying excess insurance through the car hire company. It's a brilliant concept.

the process of obtaining insurance was quick and easy. Fortunately, we didn't need to claim which would be more relevant to a comprehensive review.
