In October 2018. We took out car hire excess insurance with yourselves intending to hire a car on holiday in Spain. On arrival at alicante the car hire company refused to recognise the insurance we'd taken and being on our own, my daughter and I felt pressured into taking their insurance, we have tried on several occasions to speak/complain to the Spanish company involved but they have, as yet, not graced us with a reply. So, although it is not directly a fault of yours, we would definitely think twice about taking another policy.

Hi Dorothy, I am sorry this was your experience - as you say no fault at all with CHEW, but left you with a nasty taste in your mouth. Fortunately its fairly rare that users do end up buying further cover at the desk, but I do understand that infrequent car hirers using a company which adopts this practice can feel under pressure. Far cheaper than the options provided through the rental company. Didn't need to use it but a reassuring piece of mind nonetheless.

I didn't need to make a claim but I was pleased with the price, and I purchased a stand alone policy to avoid having to pay for an exorbitant excess on car hire. On my latest policy that I took out, I had to cancel becuase I'd fractured my foot so could not drive, and had to cancel the car hire. I was refunded the money I'd paid CHEW promptly.

Seems OK as far as it went. What really matters is what happens when a claim is made. Happily I did not need to make a claim so I cannot give a review about how efficient and helpful they are in dealing with a claim.

Thank you for your review, A 3-star review would suggest some sort of dissatisfaction with the policy you purchased, however we notice that actually because you did not have to claim that is why the product was rated as 'average' - We are confident that CHEW would deliver in the event you had to claim based on many other reviews, and hope this policy offers you the peace of mind required when hiring a car!
