Took this Insurance just before holidaying in Spain for 10days. So glad I did!! When arriving at the car hire pick up, people in front of us were having the insurance details explained to them and urged to buy their excess policy....several did, at an additional cost of over £180 for 7 days! Mine would have been in excess of £200. Chew covered me for everything from excess to tyres, undercarriage, personal belongings, wheels, glass, wing mirrors etc for less than £20.00 Unfortunately, I hit a protruding rock on an unmade track (common if hiring a villa) which ripped the tyre and gouged the alloy wheel. When collecting your car always check you have the tools in the car to change the wheel, we didn't, but were travelling with others that did (different car hire company) so were able to change it and get on our way. We were able to drive ourselves back to the car hire company who told us it was their policy NOT to leave the wheel nut spanner in the car!! So you have to get their recovery out (more costs), who take you to the nearest depot (in our case the airport!) where they would then no doubt deduct whatever they liked off your deposit card before repairs or exchange of the car. Had we not been with others we would have been stranded, miles from anywhere, in searing heat, at the mercy of when they decided to come and recover us. No chance of getting to a garage yourself and fixing the tyre!? This insurance saved me hundreds of pounds, not to mention the hassle I would have endured with the car hire company had I not had it. Chew were brilliant, I sent off the details and a few photo's and my claim was promptly settled, in full, within a fortnight of getting home. Don't leave home without it!!

It certainly makes financial sense to buy an excess insurance policy, but the bureaucracy involved in submitting the paperwork for a claim made me question whether it was worth it in the end (I had to scan and email about 15 sides of paper plus complete and scan at least 2 forms and submit photos). Because of the time that took, I took out the hire company's own insurance next time. A good product if you have the time (and patience) to submit any subsequent claim.

Watch out if sending lots of photos and photographed documents as there email server will block your email and they won't get the info. Once they had all the info my claim was dealt with quickly and without fuss.

Hi Isabel, Just wanted to say thanks for leaving your feedback - you have made a difference! As a direct result of your comments CHEW have increased the file limit for emails sent to their server from 5mb to 30mb - so future users should not encounter this problem again. Really appreciate your time in doing this. Regards, Mark Bower moneymaxim.co.uk

As described and in the policy documents , the cover provided met my needs and gave me confidence that I was sufficiently covered during my travels. It was also significantly cheaper than that cover being sold by the car hire company.
