“As with all insurance policies it is very easy to open one and save money rather than pay the Car Hire companies their extortionate fees. But you only find how good the policy is when you submit a claim, which I haven't had to do to date. So 5 stars for savings, but how do you rate something you've never used”

“We took out Car Hire Excess Insurance last summer on the advice of our travel agents as it is MUCH cheaper than the insurance they try to sell you when you hire the car. The car rental people on the ground in Cost Rica still tried to sell us their policy as well but we insisted we were covered. We were involved in a collision (a road work jeep drove into the side of us - all his fault), and the car sustained a lot of damage. We had to pay $1000 excess on the policy, and we were able to claim this back once we got back to the UK. I have not given 5 stars because whilst Carhireexcess.co.uk did pay out in full with no problems, we had no correspondence from them for weeks until they paid out in full. It would have been good to hear something from them sooner, if only to tell us they were investigating the claim. So definitely worthwhile, they did pay out without any issue, but their communication in the process could have been better.”
