As its name implies, this album is an exploration of tunes from the 19th Century collection of James Goodman which played a hugely important role in preserving traditional Irish music from pre-famine Ireland.
Featuring both tunes unique to the collection, and versions of tunes that are well established in modern repertoire, this recording carries the listener back in time on a journey of old Ireland and its soundscape. 'The manuscripts provide unique insights into the evolution of Irish traditional music and are of great significance because they preserve much of the traditional music of the south of Ireland as it was sung and played in the years before traditional culture there was devastated by the Great Famine of the 1840s.'
