Good Whistle - Not the Best Understanding that everyone is different this is my comparative review versus many of the top brands in brass, Blackwood, and aluminum. First, the response is very good with easy octave jumps. The intonation is what you'd expect as well. The comfort and ease of the holes is quite nice. I find that certain makers have seemingly straight through holes that are hard to get comfortable with. Burke's I found have been the most pleasing from that tactile sense. The volume is above average particularly considering it's moderate on air demands. So, easy to play, tuning and ergonomics are good. The part that pushed it into four stars is the tone. I understand it's a matter of taste. My experience is that the MK and a Blackwood model from an American fife maker have beautiful, bell-like tones with extra resonance on the bottom. For low D repertory this is for me, at least, an absolute. If you can try one, by all means do. I would recommend an extended warmup and then listen for the musicality of the whistle and judge for yourself.
