Customer Reviews for the Swan 30 Button Anglo Concertina
'If you are considering buying a budget concertina and you can afford the extra I would strongly recommend you go straight to the Swan.' Caroline S. 'I am extremely pleased with the swan which plays very well and has a lovely tone. I have compared [it] with a much more expensive one, and it plays just as easily and is the same size and weight.' Dan M. 'The sound quality and playability are far better than my top of the range Stagi' Phil J. 'I’m a total newbie on the concertina. I’ve poked around online for several months. The Swan concertina fit my needs perfectly.' Jeremy M   For those of you wishing to master the traditional Irish music style focusing on Anglo concertinas, we highly recommend critically acclaimed text tutorial The Irish Concertina by Mick Bramich. What's the difference between Anglo concertinas and English concertinas?
This concertina is suitable for adults and children alike, with its adjustable straps and touch sensitive buttons. It's the perfect model for beginner concertina players and people who are just starting out but want to treat themselves to a premium instrument. Thanks to its good looks and fantastic sound nobody need know you're a beginner! It's a great session concertina and can hold its own with the best of them.
In general, anglo concertinas are very expensive instruments to buy especially for the beginner player and advanced beginner player, so we wanted to fill this gap in the market. The new Swan does just that, making it affordable for players to advance. We can confidently say that this concertina is the best of its kind at this price range. It has been built with durability in mind, making it long lasting - this is essential to our customer base, particularly for its resale value. Not only is this Swan durable, but as the reeds are 'exercised' it will actually improve with age. Students usually play this concertina for 3-5 years and then trade it in and upgrade to a more expensive concertina.
And, to completely put your mind at ease, we provide a guarantee for 5 years, rare amongst concertina makers. Even beyond 5 years we're always more than happy to service our concertinas.
Good to know:

My new Swan Concertina was delivered quickly and safely. I am a beginner player and I am looking forward to learning tunes. Thank you, Mr McNeela, for including 3 free lessons and a very nice concertina case. I am enjoying learning to play this great sounding concertina!

I've just got my New Swan Concertina and my first impression is that it is so nice: It has a perfect size, small and manegeable; the buttons are really responsive and the sound is fantastic. I already had the Wren concertina, my first buy, and I feel this is a really big leap forward. I hope to go on learning and improving on Irish trad music down here in Argentina.

I got the Swan 10 days ago and now play it every day. I've tried a few beginner concertinas but it wasn't that good. The Swan is absolutely great for me. quick response, very nice sound, very good workmanship. in a nutshell: great. Incidentally, I am a beginner for Anglo.

The best think I can say about this concertina is the fact that the buttons are so smooth and responsive. I also like the sound and the high quality bellows.

Thanks a lot for the beautiful little Swan. The delivery was in estimated time without too much delay at the Swiss customs, the parcel really safely wrapped. The concertina has a lovely, calm sound. I'm a complete beginner with concertinas, but have practised the Swiss Harmonica (Schwyzerorgeli) a bit, which plays full chords on the left side and is therefore a lot louder. With the Swan I won't have to be too shy to practice on Sundays or in the evening! I cannot say that much more about this cute instrument as I will first have to learn to play it. But compared with the Schwyzerorgeli, the Swan is super-light and it should well be possible to play it even when standing. I'm looking forward to learning how to play it.

I ordered a new Swan Concertina at the beginning of January and I am absolutely delighted with it. I first thought of purchasing the Wren 2 but finally decided for the Swan. I am so very happy with the decision! It is my first instrument alltogether, so I am surely not an expert in reviewing it. For the ones which do not mind hearing the opinion of an absolute beginner in the world of playing, I find the Swan very lovely looking and sounding very nice. It is comfortable and easy to play. The shipping time was as advertised extremely short. In no time after my purchasing decision I could start practising with my new favorite instrument. That is now a good four weeks I have it and with an average of 30 minutes practising a day I am now able to play my first six tunes (even if I am still a fairly slow player). It is a great feeling! The free lessons with Caitlín Nic Gabhann helped a lot for getting started. I suscribe to further online lessons with Caitlín and I am enjoying playing the Swan Concertina a lot so far!

Spectacular Instrument for the Price! The quality is wonderful, all the reeds sound great and the button action is quite smooth. It's capable of producing loud, room-filling sounds, yet the reeds can still play when playing quieter dynamics. The compression with the bellows is really great, I was surprised how many notes I can play without it getting drawn out / pushed in too quickly. Tightening / Loosening the hand straps takes a bit with the screw style, but there's zero chance it's budging (unless you really abuse the poor thing...). I don't see much reason buying a concertina below this price range, since the Anglo 30 button allows a lot of growth and lets you play so much more so much easier than a student or 20 button model would. Ran into some problems unrelated to McNeela when shipping. It came over from Ireland fine, but somehow it got lost with USPS and took a month of calls and lost package forms to finally arrive. Despite being heavily manhandled and stored in warehouses for so long, the instrument was still in pristine condition from being packaged so well. It comes in a primary box with the instrument snuggly in its own padded case inside, so even if it gets tossed around it'll arrive perfectly fine. Unrelated to the specific product, but if you don't have any music experience, I'd recommend starting somewhere else (like Piano or Accordion) since the Concertina is tricky to get into. Trying to learn music theory on top of the note layouts for both hands in two directions along with working the bellows can be a nightmare... It's been an absolutely wonderful instrument so far, I just imagine it could drive people away if it's chosen as a starting instrument.
