CONCERTINA CARE TIPS
The concertina storage tips below, courtesy of Chris Algar, will ensure your concertina stays in top condition for longer and will help maintain smooth action and playability.StorageWhen not playing your concertina, always store your concertina in its hard case with the lid fastened to prevent dust or grit getting in and affecting the intricate internal mechanism.TemperatureConcertinas hate extremes of temperature and humidity, we recommend storing your concertina in its hard case, in a room with an ambient temperature of at least 18C but no more than 25C.Extremes of temperature or extreme fluctuations of temperature, may cause key functioning and moveable parts of the concertina to warp, sometimes to an irreparable extent.HumidityHumidity must also be kept constant, anything under 40% humidity will cause the concertina to react and will likely affect the reed pan and cause other issues that may make the concertina harder to play or may prevent it from playing at allIn winter keep a tray of water near the radiator in the room where you store your concertina to prevent the air from drying out. Those of you on the East Coast of the US, be particularly careful as your low humidity during winter may lead to internal damage to the concertina.BellowsWhen storing your concertina, make sure that you keep the bellows compressed. Firstly, ensure that you have the bellows compressed by placing a tight elastic band around the concertina, secondly, keep the concertina tightly packed in its hard case.Keeping the bellows compressed in this way prevents them from expanding and losing elasticity and means you won’t lose action on the concertina.Discover our full range of Anglo Concertinas

I am pleased with the Phoenix Concertina I ordered. It was shipped to my home in Seattle, WA. I have been working through "The Ultimate Concertina Masterclass - Beginner to Advanced" that was provided with the purchase. The lessons are excellent and I am enjoying learning how to play this lovely instrument

I appreciate The Phoenix Concertina for the sound and reliability. I was talking to some concertina players and I believe it's a very good intermediate Instrument. I was playing with the Phoenix Concertina on some sessions in different towns and many musicians like the sound of the Phoenix Concertina. I took it on my motorcylce with me, so you have always some vibrations. The Phoenix Concertina Reeds are not build in like normally. It looks more like a accordion. But that's the reason why vibrations will not be a problem for the Reeds. One thing is funny: I have the feeling, it sounds more than a accordion when I playing it on my knee. But if someone else plays it, it sound like a concertina. XD I have to learn more tunes now, but this instrument will be by me for a long time. It could be, that you will have some small issues while buying the Phoenix Concertina. (Reeds not in tune, fast action on light pressure not working). I think that depends how the Phoenix Concertina is storaged and transported. I was last week by McNeela in Dublin, awesome service! They repaired quickly the small problems. So, if you have some little problems, like the tune of a few reeds, you should visit them and asking for help. I recommend strongly the Ulitmate Concertina Masterclass Series by Jack Talty if you have already basic knowledges about playing some instruments/ a instrument. I'm from Germany and have no teachers around here. The course could be a little bit difficult for people who start with a concertina.

Delivered quickly to Portugal . My problem was this: I have two concertinas, a well restored Lachenal 20 key and a modern quite high end hand built 30 key I bought second-hand. I love the sound of the Lachenal but the action is not great. The modern box is excellent, fast and responsive, but the sound never quite did it for me. Enter the Phoenix and at last I have everything in a compact instrument. It has a lovely bright proper concertina sound and the only restriction on how fast it can play is me. Well chuffed! Thanks

I am so pleased with my Phoenix concertina purchase! It is a beautiful physical instrument with a wonderful tone that truly does play like butter. In a few short months, I have completed Jack Talty's Beginner Lessons, am memorizing several tunes, and am working to master the rest before moving to the Intermediate. Jack's lessons have been invaluable - any issues are more in terms of the bellows needing time to open up, as some tunes cannot be successfully played until that happens. Happily, I am seeing that occur more and more each day. One recommendation I have is to provide a shorter strap length as an option. I am a person of small frame and hand size. It took me about a month to find a solution to implement on the Phoenix so that I could play properly. After that, my progress really began. I would like to see the company better support buyers who do not have local shops nor expertise to help them through this issue. This concertina is my first instrument and every day I am more excited to play it as I gain mastery. Thank you for making a fine instrument approachable even for a novice!

Old Guy's first time ever trying to play a concertina! Great sound from the Phoenix Concertina. As a complete beginner who had never even touched a concertina before, Step One has to be developing the 'finger memory' - i.e. selecting which button to press for which note and - hardest of all - knowing whether to push or pull for that note without having to think about it. Oh well, time + patience + persistence will eventually overcome those little (?) difficulties :-)
