CONCERTINA CARE TIPS
The concertina storage tips below, courtesy of Chris Algar, will ensure your concertina stays in top condition for longer and will help maintain smooth action and playability.StorageWhen not playing your concertina, always store your concertina in its hard case with the lid fastened to prevent dust or grit getting in and affecting the intricate internal mechanism.TemperatureConcertinas hate extremes of temperature and humidity, we recommend storing your concertina in its hard case, in a room with an ambient temperature of at least 18C but no more than 25C.Extremes of temperature or extreme fluctuations of temperature, may cause key functioning and moveable parts of the concertina to warp, sometimes to an irreparable extent.HumidityHumidity must also be kept constant, anything under 40% humidity will cause the concertina to react and will likely affect the reed pan and cause other issues that may make the concertina harder to play or may prevent it from playing at allIn winter keep a tray of water near the radiator in the room where you store your concertina to prevent the air from drying out. Those of you on the East Coast of the US, be particularly careful as your low humidity during winter may lead to internal damage to the concertina.BellowsWhen storing your concertina, make sure that you keep the bellows compressed. Firstly, ensure that you have the bellows compressed by placing a tight elastic band around the concertina, secondly, keep the concertina tightly packed in its hard case.Keeping the bellows compressed in this way prevents them from expanding and losing elasticity and means you won’t lose action on the concertina.Discover our full range of Anglo Concertinas

What a great instrument! Prior to purchasing the Phoenix, I researched concertinas online and asked a number of owners about their own instruments. Many of them recommended McNeela as a reputable company (which I already knew since I own several tin whistles) and they felt any concertina that they sold would be quality. Of course, there was also the "if you're going to buy your first one, spend as much as your budget will allow" statement. So, I took the plunge and bought the Phoenix along with their new masterclass with Jack Talty. I have to say this... the classes combined with the Phoenix is making my new journey easy and so enjoyable. It's very responsive and I can't wait to build my skills. Jack is really an excellent source of information and a teacher.

I am a beginner player. It took me months to decide which concertina to buy, but I finally settled on the Phoenix. I’ve had it for a couple of months now and I really enjoy it. It’s just a lot of fun! The instrument was securely packaged and shipment to the USA amazingly quick. Also the case is well made and sturdy. Very happy with my purchase.

The Phoenix Concertina was my first choice for an Anglo and when I received it I was not dissapointed at all.. The ease of playability and the looks are very, very good, with a tone that is sweet and expressive and getting better the more I play it.. This is as good as instruments twice the price and I would reccomend it to anyone, from beginner, through intermediate to advanced.. I can't put mine down..!!

I bought the new Phoenix Concertina, with wood ends, after discussing this purchase with McNeela (Aaron) and getting their advice.. I was not disapointed and was totally at home with my purchase.. It may seem a large investment, but as an improver, I think it is great value for money and a long term investment.. All the issues of accessibility, layout, comfort and ease of playing are catered for.. The wooden ends with frettwork are a thing of beauty and make this stand out from the crowd.. Several friends have admired this already and I would happily recommend this as an excellent upgrade to any beginner or improver..

5 star product for sure. I'm glad to say that the Phoenix is my first concertina. I put quite a bit of research into it. I wanted something intermediate level that I could grow into, instead of buying several before getting to intermediate. Granted, this sort of thing (jumping in head first) is usually a gamble at this price point, but McNeela's moneyback guarantee, buy back, and store credit options made it a calculated risk because I knew I could always trade it back for something more appealing if this didn't hit the itch I had. What's most fun about it is that my 1yr old daughter loves music, but she's picky about what instrument she'll start dancing (bouncing) to, as if some instruments aren't "real" instruments. But to her the concertina immediately sounds like music any time I play it. So it's fun playing some short tunes on it and see her face light up and start dancing. Anyway, very happy with the purchase. Still have a lot to learn and I'm watching through the videos that came as part of the package. They're very informative and definitely worth the watch if you're a first time concertina owner/player. From what I've watched of them so far, I've definitely learned some things that kept me from beginner-level bad habits, and I'm excited to be on my way to learning to play Irish trad. I'm an American, but I love Irish trad, and it's all I've listened to for the last several months.
