CONCERTINA CARE TIPS
The concertina storage tips below, courtesy of Chris Algar, will ensure your concertina stays in top condition for longer and will help maintain smooth action and playability.StorageWhen not playing your concertina, always store your concertina in its hard case with the lid fastened to prevent dust or grit getting in and affecting the intricate internal mechanism.TemperatureConcertinas hate extremes of temperature and humidity, we recommend storing your concertina in its hard case, in a room with an ambient temperature of at least 18C but no more than 25C.Extremes of temperature or extreme fluctuations of temperature, may cause key functioning and moveable parts of the concertina to warp, sometimes to an irreparable extent.HumidityHumidity must also be kept constant, anything under 40% humidity will cause the concertina to react and will likely affect the reed pan and cause other issues that may make the concertina harder to play or may prevent it from playing at allIn winter keep a tray of water near the radiator in the room where you store your concertina to prevent the air from drying out. Those of you on the East Coast of the US, be particularly careful as your low humidity during winter may lead to internal damage to the concertina.BellowsWhen storing your concertina, make sure that you keep the bellows compressed. Firstly, ensure that you have the bellows compressed by placing a tight elastic band around the concertina, secondly, keep the concertina tightly packed in its hard case.Keeping the bellows compressed in this way prevents them from expanding and losing elasticity and means you won’t lose action on the concertina.Discover our full range of Anglo Concertinas

This is by far the best concertina i have ever played. coming from a low quality concertina that could barely play a simple melody, this concertina is a godsend in every aspect of playing. the notes are responsive, the sound is crisp, and the bellows hardly need any air to play a note. easily one of the best concertinas on the market.

When I placed the order for the concertina the phoenix was the one for me the delivery time was a lot faster than I was expecting only 5 days bye normal delivery. when I opened the package it showed to me the quality that you place with your instruments the box was of fine quality but when opened the concertina was even better than what I was expecting very high quality. having the tutorial in the deal was very helpful for some one who only started to play any type of musical instrument I can now play some tunes within a few weeks. the cost is shown in the quality of the workman ship very pleased and happy I got the right concertina many thanks willam Balmer.

Concertina purchase Recently bought a phoenix concertina from McNeela. I am very happy with the instrument. It has a nice sound and it plays really well. The delivery was very prompt with no issues whatsoever. I would highly recommend both the instrument and the McNeela shop as I have purchased other items from them as well, again with prompt delivery and no issues. Kind regards Ger.

I got my Phoenix about. 8 months ago, & have been spending so much time playing it, have neglected to write a review. Which I can sum up in three words: I LOVE it! I replaced a cheaper 30 button, & the difference was overwhelming. It sounds wonderful, & plays “like butter”, to quote another reviewer. Plus, the tones all seem “balanced”, fitting well together from low notes to high. I want to add to my review that I am NOT playing traditional Irish music on it, but instead playing old Americana fiddle tunes & bluegrass type music. It is versatile, & blends well at jam sessions, & provides helpful sustained tones. I can play chord back ups, or melody lines, & soft or loud. Plus, I enjoy it being a novel instrument at the jams I go to. Additionally, McNeela was great to order from & answered my few questions promptly…good customer service.

Hi, I received my Phoenix concertina on Wednesday! Wonderful! The lot of buttons and the two directions seems first confusing. I had no idea, how to play so I am very grateful to have this beginner lessons. I'm happy to start immediately playing with somebody who know how! I'm a french woman living in Germany: I can refresh my English knowledge too! I was a little bit worried about the Irish pronunciation but I understand Jack very well! I'm by lesson 4 and already learn a lot. Now I have to practice a lot. I'm happy and have fun! Regards Sabine

A few months earlier I got myself the McNeela Wren, and was having a delightful time with it, and was luckily enough to have the cash I could grab myself a Phoenix to help me really up my game in my playing. I must say: I liked the Wren, it did me well, but the moment I got the Phoenix, opened it up, strapped in (without even adjusting them), I immediately understood that, relative to the Phoenix, the Wren was not going to be coming out of its case anytime soon. EVERYTHING is so buttery smooth with the Phoenix; the whole instrument feels tiny in comparison, in a way that makes the craftmanship glow. The beveled buttons and action punch, the bellows action makes it so you barely feel like you need to push or pull to get your notes out, and the sound quality snaps just right. I almost regret not trading in my Wren, but I do like having a backup/teaching instrument if the need ever arises. In contrast, the Wren feels like it takes a bit more work to get notes out, the sound is (only a little) mushier, and you'll find yourself running out of air more often. I wrote a review on my Wren and gave it glowing (but conditional) praise; the Wren really feels great until you get your hands on something as superior as the Phoenix. I said it there and I'll say it here, if you've got the cash (and committment), get the Phoenix. The Wren is certainly serviceable, but the immediate leap in quality of the Phoenix seconds out of the case really blew me away. Like with the Wren, it comes with a lovely case, a small thing, but a nice touch for these products.

Excellent concertina, and love the classes! We got the Phoenix concertina for our son for Christmas, and his playing has totally leveled up. The instrument is a work of art, and it sounds so much better than his old concertina. He’s been taking the classes with Jack Talty online and he loves them and is learning a lot from them. In addition, when we bought the concertina, the customer service was outstanding, the shipping was much faster than expected, and the concertina was packaged impenetrably (in a very good way). If you are looking for a concertina, look no further. These people are awesome.
