“As an initial contact with MCE mine was not a good experience. I had an email that stated the cost of insurance on my MT09 Tracer would be £112. As I also have a 300cc scooter as a town bike, I phoned to see if they would do a multi-bike policy. Yes they said - for £250!
Bearing in mind I gave MCE the information that I do about 8,000 miles on the Tracer that is worth £7,000 and whilst I only do about 2,000 miles on the scooter, which is worth about £1,800 I was taken aback by the huge increase.
To get a fuller comparison picture on my renewal from my current insurer which included EU recovery, I asked how much extra to add EU Recovery. £60 was the answer.
There was not a lot in it but to save time I somewhat reluctantly agreed. After I spent a lot of time giving details, at the payment stage the sales person explained that he would take payment for insurance and would then connect me to EU Recovery for me to pay for that.
I then had to go through a long process of repeating all my details yet again only to be told recovery would be £67. when I explained I had just been quoted £60, the recovery sales person just arrogantly said that's a different department, the price is £67. I would have liked to cancel the whole thing at this stage but had been told this would cost me an admin fee!
Shonky unlawful practice. If MCE behave like this pre-sale when they are on there 'best behaviour' to get your business, what would they be like to deal with in the event of a claim when you are after them to payout money?
I shall renew elsewhere next renewal.”
