I purchased the XCross 520, nice comfortable riding position, upgraded to the larger screen. Very pleased with the bike.

A well built electric bike that's really comfortable and easy to ride. The spec is great and hills are no longer a consideration when planning a ride.

My X Cross was delivered, after a short delay awaiting a battery, on time as scheduled and in general I am very impressed with it. The build quality is very good and the included accessories, mudguards, lights, prop stand, rear carrier, sealed the deal for me. The prop stand is very sturdy and well positioned such that the bike is well balanced when on it and remains so even if the handlebars swing round. My one criticism is the pedals. For a bike of this nature they are excessively agressive with their spikes which would be fine if using the bike in thick mud and requiring extra grip but on what is mainly a road and light off road bike they are misplaced. I suffered a serious shin injury from contact with one of them, requiring a trip to A&E, six stitches and ongoing visits to the local surgery for dressing changes. I have replaced them with a £15 pair from Halfords with rubber grips. However, overall, I am pleased with the bikes performance.

Thank you for your positive review on the quality and performance of your new X-Cross. I am very sorry to hear of your accident with the pedals; which are an original fitting. We do now offer an excellent set of quality trekking pedals by Oxford as an upgrade, featuring a resin body and robust boron axle. I trust you will continue to enjoy your eBike for years to come :)

Long term review: Currently I am just 50 miles short of 10,000 miles on my Mark2 Xcross 520 purchased new in June 2020. It has behaved faultlessly and hasn’t once let me down. My only expenditure has been on consumables, (four sets of brake pads, three sets of tyres, new chain, rear cassette (where I updated from 8 to 9 speeds on the back), new gear cable and shifter, handlebar grips). Battery is original and has never gone below 60% remaining power even on quite hilly 30 mile trips. (I do ride exclusively on the lowest assist level as I Iike to feel I am getting my daily workout, but having the extra power available in reserve is a great comfort factor). I may add that I was somewhat sceptical when I purchased this bike as a 66 year old. I did think it would be a short term love affair before the novelty wore off and the bike put aside. Now at 68, I can honestly say it ranks as one of the best purchases I have ever made. No regrets.

The 520 is a solid well-built bike with decent components for £1999. My usual bike is a mid-drive mountain bike & this X Cross is a hub drive which rides differently so had to change my habits. A few pointers I found out. The direct hub drive does take off suddenly & can be a handful to control at low speed if you're not ready for it. New riders need to be aware of this & practice somewhere safe. Out on the road I only used modes 0 or 1 (90% if fairly flat) then 2. On steeper hills modes 3,4 & 5 didn't seem to add any extra assist so I just powered up in mode 2. Overall the bike works fine on fairly flat or easy hills which is why I purchased this bike to ride with my wife who has an X Cross 450. A good first e-bike for leisure riders.

This was a good buy. Well made, robust and comfortable. The battery range is good and with careful management the range is well over 50 miles. The gearing seems to be just about right but if you run out of battery you are left with a fairly heavy bike. There seems to be some retardation from the motor when you reduce the assistance level, this was very noticeable when I was going down a gently sloping hill with the assistance level at 0. I am very pleased with the bike.

I purchased the X-450 for my wife back in February. I kick myself for not getting one for myself at the time. When we went out for her first ride on her new bike she went off into the distance an I was a bit “miffed” as I could not catch up. The only option was to get straight on the phone and order the mens version X-520. What an amazing bike. Very easy to ride and make good use of the battery powered motor in all road conditions. It is very well priced and has a very good warranty compared to other Hybrid electric bikes on the market.
