Hi Noreen, all our engraved gifts are engraved using the heaviest setting. When shiny metal is engraved the engraving head cuts the metal so it doesn't leave a coloured or black mark, it's more of an embossed look which most people prefer. It also means it won't fade or wear away. If you send us a photo of the item and it's not engraved properly we will of course replace it.
