“This standoff is specific to the Telesteps range of telescopic ladders. The instructions are not much help but once assembled, it's easily fitted and pretty versatile. The two elements - which slot into the tops of the telescopic stiles and are then locked in place - can be set in various positions and may also be swapped over. This enables the ladder to lean securely against both sides of both internal and external corners and even against round posts. I'm an occasional DIY user. I'm not sure how well it would cope with repeated rough handling.”
